WA to CT to FL
Hey all, found out the other day I will be driving from WA to FL for work and decided to see if there were any leftover tags for antelope for a september rifle hunt. (might as well stop and make a work travel trip fun!) Saw that there were a few in unit 109, which also looked like it has a rifle season that starts early (sept. 15)

It says difficult public access, so, I printed out the walk in areas, called and got the list of landowners etc, and downloaded the onxhunt maps. I was wondering if anyone has any experience or advice in this area, what to expect etc.. I figured it may be kind of a long shot, but having something to look forward to in the middle of a long drive will be nice, successful or not. Thanks for any tips or advice.

I can't help you in that area, but sounds like you have a good start on your research for the short turnaround hunt. I wish ya luck!!

Head over to the new memebrs section and introduce yourself. Stick around and you'll get more info than you could imagine. Great group of people on this forum!!

Zach,

If you haven't already, give the local warden a call. You will likely have to leave him a message but you will likely get a return call. I can't think of anyone better suited to give you advice. When I have called different wardens in the past I have been really happy with the amount of help and advice I have received. Good luck to you and make sure you post a picture or two from the hunt.

I will echo what Hilltop said give the local warden a call...they really are helpful over the phone. I talked to one a few weeks back and was told to call again with questions but do so before the middle of Sept because everyone gets busy then...but the general office folks should be able to help out also.

That's good advise about the wardens. There are a good number of antelope over in that area, but also a lot of private. If you can find a private place that would be the best chance probably. They seem to tend to stay on the private a lot in that area, but there are public places to go. There are also some state trust lands that do have animals on them. They are small areas, so you have to be careful to stay public. Some of the landowners there like to have the numbers thinned a little, so you might luck out. The game warden would probably have that info., too. Its still pretty dang green for August, so the white butts stick out pretty nice, but the grass is tall, too. Holy buckets its September already, well its pretty green for September, lol.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have called the Sheridan office and I also have the game wardens number for that area but like someone mentioned he is a little difficult to get ahold of right now. Either way it turns out I will post up the hunt on here and let you guys know. Appreciate it.

Well, work pushed my trip back a lot. I will be leaving WA Sunday and making my way towards Wyoming. If anyone has any more info on unit 109 or advice for this time of year I would appreciate it. Looks like I will only have a few day to hunt because of work obligations but its better then nothing! Will report back, good or bad. Thanks all!
