WI and where tags takes me!
My eldest son and I burned our max. points and drew this tag. This was the year to go as he is taking a gap year before getting his masters degree. This will be his first western hunt. I have been on many but never for antelope. That said, I am looking for any help on general locations and tactics for this huge unit to find the best quality goats and have a quality experience for him. I know the north half is checker board BLM and the southern half is almost all public. I have a GPS chip. Any help would be appreciated to optimize our chances for book bucks. Thanks in advance.

Never been there but good luck, you should have no problems finding a bruiser. Just keep your fingers off the trigger long enough to look over a lot of them. His 1st hunt out west is going to be one of the best units in the best state for pronghorns, you guys are going to have a blast!

My brother was there last year. I didn't get a lot of specifics from him but remember he did tell me the number of bucks he saw was in the dozens...as in many dozens (I think he said 50+ bucks he looked over in 3-4 days of hunting). He said it was a great, fun, low pressure hunt with all the game around, and about zero other hunters.

57 would be my first choice if it weren't so hard to draw. One time, while driving to Colorado, I saw a book antelope feeding 100 yards from the road...during hunting season! Good luck.

Don't shoot an antelope that's been running a lot, skin the antelope right away, and get the meat on ice ASAP. Antelope meat can be fantastic or horrible. Properly cared for antelope meat is second to none. Antelope back-straps are like gold bricks in my house, but before I knew how to care for the meat, no one would touch it.

I've had the permit twice. There's more land and antelope in the unit than you'd possibly be able to look at in 2 months. Lots of antelope and I saw almost no hunters due to the number of tags and size of unit. The highest concentrations of antelope I saw were in the south east portion of the unit, east of flat top mtn. I made 3 trips each time I had the permit, twice during archery, and once during rifle. Your chances of taking a 80+ buck is high if you can judge them.
