There was a recent article in our local paper (Cortez Journal, September 11, 2017, "Are Wolves coming back to Colorado?") about a recent presentation by Michael Soule', "a renowned conservation biologist" to the San Juan Citizen's Alliance. He stated that he believes it is inevitable and it should be helped along with a ballot initiative requiring state wildlife officials to reintroduce wolves to Colorado. He also said the issues would lead to a "big fight" that would fragment the state. The Front Range with it's more "universal view" would easily pass the measure. The "Western Slope", however, takes a more local approach and know how it would effect the economy.

Looks like the fight to bring wolves back to Colorado is heating up. Unfortunately he is right about one thing.....The Front Range has a majority of the people and if a ballot initiative actually happen, IMHO it will tear the state apart.
Pretty sad deal for these so called conservation experts to be stirring up this crappola!!!

That would be a sad deal for sure!! It's good to see that the moose populations are doing so well and expanding into new areas here, if wolves are re-introduced it would be devastating!! I also think you would see more conflicts between people and wolves with the higher population here in Colorado, especially along the front range.

Once the wolves set up shop, I'm just curious to see how astronomically fast point creep and tag fees will start to go up then. It's going to be very sad to see colorado's fine elk herd get chewed up.

It seems like all this type of thing keeps spiraling more and more out of control and moving more and more towards ballot rulings and political agendas to keep preditors on the endangered species act far longer than they should be all across the country. And keeping them off the list to be hunted by recreational hunters to maintain and help manage the proper levels and to help gain revenue rather than lose it. It seems to be happening in more and more states here in the U.S.A. It would be shame to see such an awesome hunting state as Colorado fall into this same spiral. Colorado has been an example of state where people both resident and non resident really enjoy hunting there and to me that shows a success story of the Colorado Fish and Wildlife service but take away the animal numbers we can hunt there and that success story will fade. I hope and pray it will not fade and it will remain the awesome hunting state that it is.

I completely agree with you....but given the recent legalization of pot (carried by the Front Range population), it concerns me a lot. You and I both know what happened in California where I was born and lived until I retired 15 years ago. I am just sick to see this might happen here in Colorado.

The end game is to eliminate hunting all together. Produce a "natural balance" with predators. Always seem to forget humans are a natural predator.

Let's just build a fence around Ft. Collins along the front range down past Denver and loop back up around Colorado Springs and connect it back up in Ft. Collins. Then the govt can release wolves inside the fence. :)

Hard to believe they haven't made it to Colorado yet, seeing that they made it to Washington, Oregon, California and Utah.

I was told 10+ years ago by someone pretty high up in CO DOW (now CPW) that they were very quietly developing a management plan for when wolves eventually show up here. He was pretty emphatic at the time there were no plans to introduce wolves, but they wanted to be prepared when they did start drifting down from the other states. I see the guy occasionally but nothing more has ever been said about it. I might try to pick his brain about it next time I see him.

Creek, reintroducing the wolves to decimate Colorado's healthy elk herds will negate any need for hunting/guns to control numbers.
I believe that's the objective of all the front range demotards. Eliminate hunting and the need for guns. JMO

Wolves are already in North Park, Colorado. I would like to know if they are hurting the moose population there.
You probably won't get a truthful answer to that question by anyone in Colorado G&F, unless you ask a warden/biologist who's already retired. G&F employees in any state have to watch what they say for fear of reprisals.

The biologist in charge of the Bears in NJ was canned because he told you how it was and didn't cover things up

We were hunting in the Uncompagra (sp) and some hunters from Wisconsin said they saw 3 wolves. The DOW told them they were just big coyotes. They told me they have wolves in Wisconsin and they know what a wolf looks like. That was 10 years ago. I've hunted up there quite a bit and I haven't seen or heard any.

I cant fathom that people don't just shoot them when they see them....

It really blows my mind.....

then again, of course nobody brags about doing that on the internet...lol

" I thought it was a coyote" seems like a perfectly acceptable answer to me.

I hope they dont ruin colorado...thats some good elk hunting right there.
