exactly how bad do you want to kill one? are you willing to hike12 or so miles and camp in sub zero temps? I know where to go and how to do it and have a reasonably good chance at killing one but frankly , I have become to old,fat and lazy and no longer want it that bad.had there been a season on em twenty years ago I would have done it but no longer.

Ive found howling to be the most effective way to call them in. I have killed a decent # of wolves in the last few years. This one below, I saw from fresh tracks in the snow, walked into a clear-cut and howled a few times. he answered, and came running out of the trees about 3 minutes later.

I have never gone to the trouble of setting up a bait stand, as I find calling to work very well, but I shot this billy, and by time i got to it (45min after the shot), there was this wolf getting ready to have a snack, so i guess you could call that baiting, lol.

Thanks guys! I found wolf calling to be alot like elk hunting (took me a few years to start having regular success with elk)......first one took a while, and had to figure out they way that they would react to a certain situation. But once you put in some time and start having success and encounters with them in a calling situation, it becomes alot more consistent.

Best tip i think i can give is if you do call out a wolf and it isnt on top of you, wait it out a bit.....in my experience they will often send in a "scout" at first, and then the pack will follow shortly. If you are able to wait it out, good chance you'll get a chance at more than one if you dont shoot the first one to pop out, haha.

That's awesome, that first Wolf is a hog!!
Thanks man....and ya, that one was a tank. I usually skin and sell the wolves I shoot, but that one made it into the trophy room (never mind the pic, were doing a bit of remodel here, so got stuff stored in the basement).

If any of you are every up this way between Dec and March, drop me a line.....would be cool to get together for a predator hunt. Cant guarantee that we would find wolves, but certainly fun to chase them, and theres enough yotes to keep a guy interested if the wolves arent cooperating.

That would be awesome! Can you Hunt with a resident or do you have to have a guide or something like that?
Nope, no guide needed as long as your with a resident. The resident just needs a couple weeks heads up and they can get a host permit, then good to go anywhere in Alberta. It's easy, a guy I met on a grizzly hunt from California has come up here hunting a few times with me (and repayed the favour with a hog hunt down his way which was a blast, lol), and it was no problem to get everything in line.

Do you know about how far you are from the Minnesota border?
