Okay, who else is going through withdrawals now that waterfowl season is over, the decoys are put up and the guns cased? I for one am looking forward to passing the time hunting turkey's this spring, maybe chase a bear or two in there too. Oh, and I forgot to mention buying a bunch of gear that I am going to pass off to my wife as "needing" of course!

Nope, I'm getting ready for spring snow goose hunt in South Dakota next month. I was just messing with my blue geese socks!

Definitely experiencing withdrawals in the off-season that I don't think will be fully "cured" for me until next fall. I even finished reading a bunch of hunting books and magazines that have been piling up for a long time. I had to resort to a thriller which is pretty desperate for me, but at least that book was about Montana and included a grizzly bear so I guess that's ok. Anyway, I'll survive. I did have some great venison steaks tonight and that always helps.

Goose season is still open here in LA. The regular season closes this weekend, and the conservation season runs till march. I've started running my beagles on rabbits to pass the time. Going squirrel hunting with a guy from work this weekend also. He has some good treeing curs. Besides that I've been keeping my eyes open for pig sign, so I can take my catahoulas on a hunt. Probably gonna start getting my boat ready to run next week also. Those big flathead catfish will start biting pretty soon, and it'll be time to put out a few trot lines.

All of that's fun, but I'd rather be on a mountain with a rifle in my hands.

I get to watch Honkers all year! They nest on my pond, so I get to replenish some of the population I shoot each year. Last year I had 44 goslings raised.

Time to do a little scouting next month in southern Colorado in my preferred antelope unit. Then on to the spring cowboy shooting trail...California, Arizona, Nevada & Utah. Forgot to Mention National Championships this month in Az. Then fishing and prairie dogs................

I'm taking the professional engineering exam this spring. That will be a perfect distraction in February and March. It is on April 15 and turkey season starts April 16. Perfect timing!

When I was living in Nebraska, I was looking forward to Snow's about this time of year and turkey's for sure. I am definitely chasing turkey's somewhere up here this spring and I have even been mulling over the idea about applying for a Sandhill tag. Any of you guy's hunt Sandhills before, I never have. Got a few ideas to make some blinds better this spring cause Lord knows it wasn't my calling or spread that flaired those birds ;) Here's a couple photos to give this thread some color...

Snow geese just started pouring into our area today- much earlier than usual. Temps are forecasted into the mid 60s for several days so I'm thinking we will get some shooting in this weekend. I have seen about 4000 today just from my office window.

Yea I'm feeling it too. Was organizing some gear yesterday and was thinking about some good memories from the season.

So you live in Powell? There can't be much for waterfowl in that area is there?

Headed to Kansas next weekend to hunt the snows! They are on the move big time! I hope there are still some juvies around that are willing to decoy!

Yikes... I heard reports that there were bunches in SD right now. We had sustained 30-40mph winds on Wednesday and Thursday, I'm afraid the birds might have burned straight through Missouri.
