Don't move to Wyoming, the elk moved to Colorado and Montana. The fish left for Utah. All the deer are gone too. The wind never stops blowing and it's cold as chit.

Salinger, those with ears to hear and eyes to see, know what you're saying [emoji6] also NVbird, I used to live in Reno. If you're willing to work there are great opportunity in NV. Lazy, not so much.

So you're really saying the wolves ate all the fish and deer.

Idaho, Montana, Wyoming. All have pluses and minuses. I live in CDA and it is a great place, just not the small town in grew up in. which is both good and bad. I don't like fishing in any way shape or form, but my wife loves it. So I do know there is a lot of fishing in the cda area. Hunting is decent, with lots of opportunity, maybe not lots of trophies. but you can get your bull every year if you work at it.

I suspect that later on we will become WY or CO residents but will winter in Oregon since the wife loves the beach in winter and I love the steelhead.
I've never heard of anyone "snowbirding" in Oregon!!!! But I like the way you think. And, speaking of steelhead, have you heard of anyone doing any good yet? I've heard a few little rumbles around here but nothing too exciting. Happy new year to all!!!

Thanks for all the input. And yes I know about all the game leaving Wyoming. Nothing there anymore - at least when I left Rawlins with a full truck in October. Full freezer though. I was thinking Utah but only a maybe. Hunting there is okay and better if you draw well, fishing is an unknown. Kinda dry. One consideration too is enough "culture", spelled shopping, to keep the wife and daughter cool. Super small towns are good for me but they'll need a little city like amenity. Some jobs or industry would be cool... I'm not ancient yet. And, if I want to avoid dyeing in my sleep from shovel poisoning then I'll consider the girls. Nevada is near my top state and Reno has some of what's needed if not all but its a tougher sell. I'll be able to buy a house outright probably but have to have a happy family wherever we end up and during the off season. Scratch that. There is no off season.

If it were me, I'd spend my winters in the Florida keys chasing bill fish; Springs slaying crappie in Mississippi, Summers catching pike and walleye in Minnesota and Fall in Wyoming bugling for Elk.

My vote would be for either WY or MT. Casper, WY, Bozeman or Billings, MT. I don't know if those are big enough for your girls, but the hunting and fishing in either of those two states is some of the best in the west. Winters are cold. Living in UT, the hunting and fishing are what you make of it, and I do think it takes more effort to be successful and be successful often. UT does have some pull as the Wasatch Front is developed and probably has all the shopping your girls would need. The winters are surprisingly mild, skiing is best in the west (9 resorts within an hour or so of Salt Lake), but winter air quality is the pits between Provo in the south and Ogden in the north.

Bozeman MT has to be the best location I've ever seen as far as hunting and fishing opportunity. You name it, from birds, to fish or mammals , it is all there! Never lived there but when I'm in that part of the state, I dream about moving there one day.

HaHa....(You didn't hear this from me)..... Brookings Or has the best WX on the Pacific Ocean North of Monterey!!!! period.
My kid texted me a shot of her thermometer in Fort Collins at -9 the other day.... I opened the pic while standing on the beach in shorts:)
Kind of seems like a crazy snowbird plan, but I've got the CO and WY mountains in my blood and the Chetco, Rogue and Umpqua in my heart!!!!!
River(s) were blown out and debris filled over most of the holidays...... they have been starting to catch a lot at least down south Elk/Sixes/Chetco.

Cost of living is going through the roof.... but Laramie would fit your description. Sorry sslinger. Fishing is great in the plains lakes and the hunting is good as well. Ft. Collins CO is only an hour away and Denver a little over 2 hours. Plenty close enough by western standards to the "culture" you refer.

I'd live in Saratoga Wyoming from April to November then winter in Arizona or Texas. My .02 pennies. Got relatives that pay $1200 a month to rent a place 2 bedroom house in Arizona all utilities included and fully furnished. Have the tax breaks of Wyoming and for a little money get out for the winter.
Over the last 20 years or so I have had the opportunity to check out some great little towns.
Pinedale was the first spot we took an interest in.
Several years ago I discovered Craig and Meeker. I went out of my way to swing by those towns with my wife in tow.
This year we took a day out of a trip to make a big swing through Lander and Casper when we spent the night in Rawlins.

During this falls elk season we found Saratoga. What a cool little town!!!!! Only a matter of time.....

Yep. I've hunted many times out of Saratoga, Riverside / Encampment areas. .. don't blink, and its a super hunting and fishing area. Lot's of private trout areas but if ya work a little it can be trout heaven. Great elk and deer hunting. Okay on speed goats too. Too small for the girls but great place and great people I've met there.

Got a text from a buddy that said he's made 2 trips to the Coquille river and brought home 9 fish. Looks like I'd better head west!!!!

Seriously though, wolves ate all the elk, deer and fish. It was -57° last week in Laramie. Also due to global warming all the lakes are disappearing. [emoji6]

The funny thing is that he's not joking! They showed a graphic on the local news channel that had the lowest wind chill ratings for the SE part of the state and there were -50's and -60's on there.

I was talking to a friend the other day and she said her parents wanted to buy a place in Laramie to winter in.....I asked where they would summer? Antarctica?

I think living in Laramie would be terrible. No offense to Sligers choice but the hunting over there isn't as good, unless he's got an in for Laramie peak. Knew a guy that dated a rich girl from wheatland and had huge ranch to hunt
