I hunted the Boulder unit in 2010 and had very hot weather to deal with. Most days were in the 90s and very windy. I was a diy hunter and found areas that had allot of bulls. I would love to go back but most likely never will get to. I shot a good bull on last day of hunt but not the one I thought I would shoot. Glad to share what I learned with anyone that asks.

I have zero experience in any of these units but....everything you read or hear points toward San Juan. I've never heard anything bad about it. From almost any perspective it is the best elk hunt in Utah and maybe in the world. If I waited that long, I would apply for it until I drew. Good Luck UH.

Utah will also restructure the hunt dates next year, ie: move the dates back. The archery hunt should end somewhere on like the 17th of September next year, that may also play into consideration for waiting one more year to draw and put the hunt dates a little more in your favor. Just a thought!
Any truth to this? That would be great news.

So where is this 17th info coming from? Just looked at a hunt planner on the dwr website and it's got the 11th as the end of the le archery hunts this year.

You are correct with it ending on the 11th. I was a year off of when they will restructure the dates, sorry.

Its been a few years but I have seen some big bulls in San Juan when we used to hunt ML deer there. I dont know anything about any other areas but if I had your points and killed a monster bull in Colorado last year I would hold out for San Juan. Who knows, you could get lucky and draw this year and also the other max point holders could jump ship on another unit and make your odds better. You will never have max points again. Stick with it and use them on the hunt you want to go on.

If I had max points my goals would be to kill the biggest bull possible on the best unit possible.

What are your goals? Will you be disappointed if you kill a 340 bull? Will you be hiring an outfitter or DIY?

Confirming what has been said above, this would be a tougher year to bowhunt it with the calendar flip. With the early close, you would be limited to spot and stalk or sitting. Although I think big bulls are much easier to kill early but it requires a ton of scouting time.

I would either hold out for the best unit or look at a premuim tag on a lesser unit and hunt like crazy. There are great bulls to be found on most units if you have a little luck and put in a lot of effort.

I don't know the best Utah bull elk unit, but your a max point holder. I would hold out for the best tag, you already have Max points, use them and go on a hunt if a lifetime, and shoot a giant bull
