I have been in oil & gas for the past 8 years. Started out as an operator in a natural gas amine plant. The last 6 yrs I have been a natural gas measurement technician. Started with a large oil & gas producer and was bought out by one of the nations largest midstream companies. I have great flexibility in my job and 4 weeks vacation fixing to be 5. Love what I do!

BS in Mechanical Engineering. Went to work for the company started by my dad, a a 55 year old company and a world leader in electronic component manufacturing. Started as a project engineer, which included mowing, bailing and bucking hay on his ranch during hay season...ha ha...at least the pay was good. At 28 years old, went to the Netherlands to lead the start-up of manufacturing there, hire and train staff, even some new product work. Came back to Oregon and continued to support the European operation and worked in basic research. Parents both killed in a car accident a few years later. I moved into VP of development engineering (new product development and manufacturing processes) and marketing for Europe. Later, did interim teaching at my home church while they looked for a pastor, and I ended up resigning from the family business and became a full time teaching pastor. Ex divorced me, marrying a former close friend and supervisor at the family business, so with six kids I became a full time dad to give my kids as much time and stability as possible. Met the the love of my life on an online Christian dating site (yes it does happen) and she has become my best friend ever (God is good...all the time!). We just celebrated 8 years of marriage. My wife is trained as an interior designer but has never been able to do her own home. Today, we meet with an architect to modify one of their house plans. I plan to build her a home on our property on the North Umpqua River, much of it with my own hands. Also want to build a shop as a platform for a business, hopefully leaning in the direction of high performance products for hunting and or fishing. I also love being a grandpa to my first three grandkids.

A lot of unforeseen hills and valleys along the way, but it's all things God uses for good to shape us and mature us and without that perspective life can throw you for a loop.

As a side note...my wife had never hunted before we were married. She now has the following to he credit :) :

California Bighorn from Oregon
5 point bull elk with a crossbow from Wyoming
Cow elk off our property
80+ antelope from Montana
Antelope from Wyoming
Muzzy mule deer from Utah
Blacktail buck from Oregon

Retired from the Rockwell aerospace sector, which was sold to Boeing.....didn't care for Boeing, left and spent the next 22 years at Northrop Grumman. Paid the bills (and retirement too!).

I hear ya. Worked for McDonnell Douglas right out of college and worked for about 2 years under Boeing control. Once Boeing started hacking and slashing the workforce I got out and went to work for a software supplier to Boeing. I have been working on Boeing products at my current company for 18 years. Seems strange but I probably have better job security as a supplier to Boeing than if I was still an employee.

We do work for Boeing. We like to say we get their projects completed in spite of them.

Northrop Grumman was a major subcontractor for Boeing on the 747 (we built all the body panels). I was on temp assignment to the 747 when we were building the panels for Air Force 1, lot of FBI and USAF folks on site. They all were a PITA, including the Boeing reps. Years later Boeing was a major sub for us on the B2 program. Their attitude was Boeing was the only Mfgr that could build large airframes. I was in charge of Production Engineering and I really was a PITA to them! Paybacks are hell!:p
