So my group is applying for our NR Wyoming deer tags and just trying to figure out best option. It'll be with zero points and we're just looking for a good chance at drawing and a good area to go to see decent animals and numbers I guess. Right now I'm looking at first choice region Y, second region M third region J. Hoping to draw Y at 50/50 but if not there's good chance at the other two. Anyway does this sound like a good idea? If not, anyone got a better plan for us? Thanks guys. Derek

What constitutes good numbers and decent animals?
Just looking for a good hunt where we'll have a good chance at drawing a tag for a region that generally has good amount of muleys. Not expecting for monsters but 130-140" type or better is what I would like to see

After failing to draw a MT tag, my plan is try to draw a Wyoming regional tag 2nd or 3rd choice to preserve my points. If I fail in the Wyoming draw, Idaho is my fallback. If it weren't another 6-8 hours of driving each way, Idaho would be my first choice.

130-140 class bucks can be had in any of the regions. Keep your expectations in check- with zero points your not likely to see "good numbers" of shooter bucks in any of the easy to draw areas. With work, you can take 1 or 2 decent bucks in all areas mentioned. Good luck this fall and enjoy the hunt.

Does anyone have any experience with Y or M that they'd be able to share? Advice? Do's & don'ts?

Where are you coming from out of curiosity? I have hunted Region M and its a really tuff unit. We got there 2 days before the opener and people were still hunting cow elk. All the deer were pushed off the BLM we were hunting. Opening morning was a mad house of ATVs and headlights zipping around everywhere.

You'll fit right in for Region M then. 70% Wisconsin population during deer season in M, 25% California, and the other 5% scattered amongst other states LOL.

Seriously though, the last week may be a way better choice if you decide on M. I will Never hunt M again likely, but if I did I would wait until the last week.

I see. I'm weighing our options on all the possibilities of regions to try and draw for with the idea of public access in mind but yet not so crowded. Pretty much what everyone is looking for. But that's the main reason I'm going to stay away from the eastern regions especially A. Everything I read about is how hard it is hunted by so many people.
