What magazines (if any) do you subscribe to?

I haven't subscribed to hunting magazines in over 10 years, find it easier to google search for the information I need.

I've subscribed to Wildfowl, Field and Stream, Outdoor Life in the past. Really liked a magazine put out by Columbia sportswear company in the 1980's and early 90's (I think they only did four issues total).

Really liked Wildfowl, but found over the course of time they just recycle articles and concepts. There is only so much to write about.

Thinking about subscribing to the Western Hunter as I'm interested in hunting Colorado / Wyoming / Montana. Are there other good resources out there?

What magazines do you subscribe to, and why?

Definitely Eastman's. I used to have a subscription to Petersen's Hunting that I had since the mid 70's, but I finally had to cancell it due to having over 50% advertising in every magazine every month. Like many things it changed drastically when old man Petersen passed away.

Wild deer & hunting adventures for me. Little advertising but mostly wall to wall hunting stories and hunting photos from Australia and around the world's. They have a real focus on family and kids hunting.

I read EHJ three times before you guys see it. That and EBJ are still the best. I'm biased, but then EHJ was my favorite magazine by a long shot before I signed on with Eastmans'.

I think the quality of the staff articles we've run has been really good the last couple years. Dan Pickar, Yashti Perkins and Brian Barney have written some great articles along with other folks that are either in the office or submit good stuff.

Dan Turvey Jr. (managing editor) and Christine (graphic artist) work really hard, as does Scott on the digital side, Brandon (advertising) and Todd (copy editor for EBJ). Dan, Dan, Scott and Brandon also write articles, of course. And, Guy has more than a little bit to do with it too. :) Ike even writes an article here and there when he's not running the business side and of course Mike still offers his wisdom, which is greatly appreciated.

You guys should email Eastmans' when you read something you really like to let them know. You'd be amazed how little email the staff gets from readers. It's really nice if you've written or designed something to hear that people like it. Those and even the critical emails get circulated around the office.

I've always maintained that in general, people hand out way too few of the compliments they think, and that's too bad, because complimenting someone, no matter who it is, will always make their day. Life is tough and encouragement is golden, whether its your wife, your kids or your waitress.
