HAHA i can't give the exact coordinates of him but he is a central oregon buck.

BigSur, ya i bow hunt. Our season opens up in the last week of august. The bucks stay in the area until they rub their horns and their hair color changes from tan to grey. As soon as they start their change they leave for somewhere, its the weirdest thing. The deer that have been there all summer leave and new ones start moving through. Sometimes they dont change until part way through the season(2010) and last year(2011) it was the week before season. The big ones always change first and i had pics of him grey the week before season. Just some bad luck with the weather i guess. Im wondering if theyre just moving into some thinker brush for the fall hunting seasons. Ive heard their horns are sensitive in velvet so when they get rid of it im wondering if they retreat to the jack pine thickets.

I thought it looked like the Deschutes Basin in the pic or south of there a bit...volcanic ash soil, manzanita, open pine forest. I've seen so many good bucks come out of that area but I never hunt it myself. I've seen some monsters along Hwy 97 in the early winter as they migrate out of the Cascades, but some of the biggest live out in the pine or sage flats all year. Since this area is roughly the size of Connecticut I think your secret's safe.

I've noticed the same thing with the bigger, I assume older bucks turning grey early. I can't imagine what would make them move much in the last week of August except if they've rubbed, then they'll pick a brushier hiding place.

That is a great buck you have on your camera. I wish you the best of luck on taking him and hope to see some pictures of you holding that big sucker in your hands.

If you can hunt him, hunt him hard and have fun in the process of doing so!!!
