Wenaha Deer

So... I was just curious if anyone here has a good starting point for my first time in the Wenaha? I am looking for a place that will be good deer ground and will not piss off all of the elk hunters, if that is possible. Since this is the first time in a long time that they have allowed archery deer without the elk tag, I thought it might be a good idea to stay out of their way--just trying to play nice. There is a lot of land for only 290ish hunters.

I hope opening up these 250 deer tags doesn't equate to illegally taken elk from the unit, that would be sad.

Likely the mule deer hunt in Aug 29-Sept 27 with 250 tags (he mentioned 250 tags). The later whitetail hunt has only about 30 tags. The whitetail hunt also opens after the bull elk rifle elk hunt.

I can't help you Jon, I have only been there for a couple days 20 years ago.

It's not very good deer country from what I have seen in the time I have spent over there. I can see why a local would apply for that tag but can't imagine driving a long ways past a lot better deer country for the hunt. It's mostly elk country.....no doubt there are a few nice bucks around (as there are everywhere) but they will be tough to hunt.

Ive spring bear hunted there a few times and have seen a fair amount of both muleys and white tails,,need more info and I could give him a couple ideas of where to start,,,only from my spring experience though.
