The big smile says it all! Im so proud of this girl and so happy I helped her and was there with her when she got her first deer!!!!!

Opening day, Saturday was kind of a tough day and nothing worked out like I expected. I work for her father on their farm and I get to watch the deer on it all year but it seemed like once the first shot went off opening morning everything I thought I knew about these deer and hunting went out the window. I did get her a shot at a buck but due to a classic case of buck fever she missed. Honestly I was happy she was that excited about hunting! I also decided the gun she had was not working out so the next morning I brought her my 270. I didnt really like giving her a gun that we werent able to let her shoot first but I was confident in my gun and pretty sure she was flinching with the 7 mag she had borrowed. Sunday morning we couldnt find a legal 3 point buck for anything. Toward the end of our morning hunt I decided we should check 1 more area I had seen some bucks bedding in a few weeks ago but recently I had only seen a few does. Just when I was starting to think we werent going to see any deer in it at all she exclaimed 'there's a deer, its a buck!'. I had to move a few feet to see him and I confirmed he was legal. Her first shot was a little far back but I knew he was hit hard and wasnt going far. He bedded in some grass and we snuck up behind a little ridge and to get closer and she made a perfect shot to seal the deal!!!

"Take your time, hold right behind his shoulder, squeeze the trigger.................................Should I shoot? Yes, shoot, shoot the deer..................................All I can see now is his butt, should I still shoot? No, dont shoot, wait, follow me, there he is, hold right behind his shoulder, shoot.....Boom! Thawack! YOU GOT HIM!!! Really, I got him?!?!?! YES YOU GOT HIM!!! There are no words to describe the rest, you had to be there!!!!!!!!!

That is so cool! I have been fortunate enough to have helped on a few first deer hunts, it's so fun seeing their reaction.

Nice buck too!

Way to go MM. That first successful hunt feeling is something incredible. Whether yours, or through the eyes of another. Congratulations to you both.

Musket Man,

Good job on helping out a new deer hunter! It is great so see that she really appreciated the deer and was so excited. Fun times! I'm sure she will never forget the hunt.

Good deal there! Congrats to both of you!

Was this a fully guided hunt (where you dress the dear), or a semi-guided hunt (where you watch her do it and laugh)? ;)

HAHA lib! It was somewhere in between Id say. Realized I could do most of it blindfolded but I was not very good at explaining it so I would get things started and show her what to do and then let her do it or I would do 1 side and she would do the other. I think she could get 1 done on her own now. I helped her process it and make sausage too. We had a great time and it was much better then getting a deer myself. I had seen this buck a few times and was 1 I was looking for in ML season 2 weeks ago but Im much happier that she got him!!!!!!

Nice work MM!! It is definitely rewarding taking the new hunters and seeing their excitement! I have actually enjoyed taking my son's hunting the couple years more than if I were the one hunting.
