I have a couple different brands of water bladders. Just that they taste like plastic unless I mix something with them.
Looking and willing to try something different if there's any good advice out there. I know that I need to drink more water on my hunting trips. Thanks!

I've found that the more I use mine the less it tastes like plastic. I've also filled mine full of water and put it on the dash of my truck or in a window where it will heat up and get some sun. I'll leave it there for a few days and change the water and soi it again. I'll do it for about a week and it seems to flee ally help with the taste.

I usually bleach mine when I first get them with about a 4:1 water bleach ration and let it sit for a few days. Then I will fill it with water and lemon juice for a while. Once I do that I don't notice the plastic taste.

Buy the Platypus ones. They do not have the plastic taste and you don't have to do anything to them. Also very thick and durable plastic.

Try the ones that eberlestock uses our the ones that kriega sells. Kriega is a motorcycle backpack manufacturer.

I agree the platypus light plastic bladders don't seem to have any bad taste. I find the MSR Drom and Dromlight are also fine.

I'll offer a different route. I stopped using them and started hunting with a filter and 1/2 quart size roll up drinking/bag. I just don't like carrying around the water with me all day. Saves a considerable amount of weight. Granted doesn't work if you are hunting an area with limited water sources.

I use 2 nalgene bottles in my pack, and then carry a gatorade bottle in the drink pouch on my pack, as a nalgene doesnt fit there. I can't stand water bladders. My buddies sprank a leak last fall, and he ended up spending a pretty wet night on the mountain.

What JT81 said. I have had no issues with the Platypus 1L water bottles with regards to plastic taste or smell.

I've been using Camelbak 3L bladders for all of my outdoor activities for decades and haven't had any issues. Granted, if the plastic taste comes about when they are new, then perhaps I've long forgotten about that detail. I often leave water in the bladders by accident for weeks and after dumping out the old water (may be a bit slimey), I still don't notice an off taste. Back in my firefighting days we used Camelbak bladders, and let me tell you, those things were so nasty. They picked up the smoke from the fires. The MSR Dromedary has been mentioned, and I have successfully used the Lite one for backpacking, but that little black nozzle gave out and soaked my whole pack once. The replacement solved the problem. The black Dromedary bags are super thick and durable, and shouldn't ever leak.

My most valuable advice: DO NOT buy cheap gallon jugs of water and throw them in your pack. I tried that once with 6 gallons of water from Walmart when I was backpack hunting (in AZ) and damn near every one was popping its lid or had pinhole leaks in the sides. Won't be doing that again...

Oh, and an odd thing that a couple of my hunting buddies do is carry around fresh disposable 12oz bottles of water. Of course they conveniently crush the empty ones when I'm trying to be stealthy. I most certainly don't advocate this approach.

I like the camelback unibottle. It keeps your drink cold, which is nice on a warm day. I also clean mine with vinegar and then rinse it well before using it with water. I have never had a problem with the taste of it.

If you're using Nalgene bottles, look into regular 1L soda or gatorade bottles. Nalgenes weigh 6 ounces vs the others at 1.5 ounces.2-3 of those can save you a pound in your bag and some money.
