Anyone else on here burning their points on this unit? I don't think I can take the heartache of seeing unsuccessful on Juniper again. Those 15 points are burning a hole in my pocket! BTW if anyone is planning on hunting deer there this year let me know and I will keep an eye out on my scouting trips. This is where I got my bighorn and know the unit fairly well.

I've got 17 points but won't spend them on the Juniper tag. I think I'll hold out for the Hart Mt. tag since I'm within 3-4 years of drawing it.

Bighorn, you are right there dude to draw a Juniper tag. Last year in the Juniper Unit:

15 points: 20 residents drew 20 tags (100% drew)
14 points: 82 residents drew 29 tags (35% drew)

Juniper will have to be near a 100% draw this year with 15 points.

If you are looking at Warner, check out West Beatys, I think it is a far better unit.

Springer, I personally would take Juniper over Hart. A family friend drew Hart a couple years back and due to problems with fire and dry conditions he was given a small part of the refuge to hunt. He felt crowded and had a subpar experience. And Umpqua, my cousin hunted Warner last year and we found two bucks that I won't be able to live with myself if I don't take a crack at them. Both survived the rifle seasons and I just have to believe they are waiting for me!!

I've been keeping an eye out for a good unit for quite a few years now. Hart Mt wouldn't make my top 5 from what I have seen and researched, it's highly over rated IMO. Juniper would be at or near the top, I will be drawing a tag this year and Juniper just may be where I end up. Warner is among is on the list of units I am considering for sure. I still have some work to do before the draw!

Fellows, I've heard that Hart is overated but the September season lines up best with my work schedule. Usually I can't take time off in August.
I find it interesting that your cousin was confined to one small portion of the refuge? Was he able to take a buck?

Getting time off is important! I'm certain you will have a good hunt Springer, I look forward to hearing about it when you get to go. It's a bummer we have to wait decades to hunt Antelope in Oregon.

Come in to Hart from the South and you won't see another person. Park your truck a few miles off the hwy and ride the quad in. 10 mph on that road was flying and I never made it out of there without having to replace something on the front end of the truck.

Seems like someone told me that you have to "check in" with the refuge before starting your hunt? I could be wrong? Copy what you said about the roads. I've buggered up my truck a few times over in the Whitehorse Unit.

I believe you Wapiti Bob. The biggest antelope I have ever seen was at the SE end of the refuge. That was a LONG time ago, but I'm sure there are still some good 'uns roaming around there..

I called the refuge and told them I was hunting south of the creek and this phone call would constitute my "check in". "sounds good to me" was the reply.

Did any of you draw and if so how was the hunt? I'm sitting on 14 points, keep putting in for Juniper but I'm getting an ichy trigger finger. I killed a 'Booner' in the Steens unit in 1999, but because of the BLM/Private landowner land trades the area I killed my buck is now private. I doubt I will ever kill a bigger buck in Oregon but I love hunting them!

I wish that they would come out with some better bow hunts for antelope here in Oregon or at least have the ones that they do before the rifle season!
