So I'm thinking about upgrading my spotting scope but $800 will be my limit and to tell you the truth I really shouldn't spend that much. So at the moment I have a redfield rampage 20-60x60 spotter works good out to 40 power and after that really pretty much useless.

I'm looking at the vortex razor 11-33x50 or the viper 15-45x65 but not sure if there would be any difference in the two other than power. To me the razor would be the better scope but then you have the viper that goes to 45 power but again would it be usable after 40 power. The razor I thought was suppose to be the top of the line spotter then viper. Just don't understand if one would be better than the other. Can't find any reviews comparing them. Wish I could just buy both. :)

I've posted this two other sites haven't gotten much feed back. :(

Get the Razor. I've had both and the Razor is the way to go. PM Andrew (Hardstalk) he is our res forum vortex dealer and can hook you up with info and purchase.

My friend has the razor 11-33x50 and it is very impressive for its size. Judging deer, he can tell the difference between 170 and 180. I have the razor 20-60x80 and it out performs its little brother when inches count but neither scope looses much even at full power. In my opinion the upgrade in quality is worth the loss of power gain and you won't notice the razor in your pack.

I have a great 50mm scope that I love for backpacking. Even with how much I love it I would always choose to look through a good 65mm scope. I'm not impressed with the 50mm Razor, I think the edge quality is poor and I think the edge quality of the 65mm Viper is better. As far as the Rampage only working up to 40x that is pretty standard and you would be loosing 10x going withe the Razor and only gain 5x going with the Viper.

I purchased the 16-48x65 Razor HD from Hardstalk before the season. I have used it on a Deer hunt and Antelope hunt. Very happy with it. Crisp, clear, easy to pack. He was easy to deal with at a very competitive price.

Get the Razor. If you call around to some smaller dealers and ask for their best price, you can probably do better than the MAP (minimum advertised price) you will tend to find on the internet. You may even be able to get the 16-48X65 for about what your budget is.

Also for optics with great warranties (like Vortex, Swarovski and others), you can buy used on eBay and if you have a problem the company will back their product.

I just picked up the 16-48x 65mm Razor from camerlandny, a demo for just under 1K. I haven't had them out close to dark, but the view is very clear what little I have used it so far. Bought them mainly due to recommendations I have seen here on the forum.

How far can you effectively see with the 16-48 razor? I also am looking at upgrading in the spring. It is between the 20-60-80 viper and 16-48 razor.

I have a viper hd and it is great at the lower powers. I would say if you can swing it save your money and buy the razor!
