This is probably going to be a long and boring story, but I just need to vent a little.
So anyway, I bought a Remington 700 CDL 7mm-08 back in April. I bring it home, throw a scope on it and take it out. The best groups I Could get were 4"@100 didn't matter what I put through it! Factory or reloads. Went through about 30 different reload recipes. So finally, it got the best of me so I called Remington about it. After being on hold for a half an hour I finally got through. The gentleman told me then that there was a recall on the trigger and to send it to them and they would address both issues. So right away I asked him how long it would take, he said about five weeks. On May 5 I sent the gun to them. Last week I call to check on the progress and the guy on the other end tells me "they've checked the barrel and the riflings were cut wrong so they had to put a new barrel on it then it was off to get the recall stuff taken care of. I ask him, how long? He replies, about twelve weeks. I said twelve weeks from May 5 or twelve weeks from now? He said twelve weeks from now. !!!WTF!!@!??? Deer season will be over by then!!! So that conversation ended with me pissed off! When I got home that day I emailed Remington and got no replie. So after stewing on it all week, I called back yesterday. After another 30 minute wait, I got threw. This gentleman tells me that the triggers fixed and that they're gonna put a new barrel and receiver on it and was just waiting for me give the go ahead. ??huh?? That's funny, that totally contradicts what the other guy told me the week before!! I just went off on the guy!! I said how long does that take?? He couldn't give me an answer! I can swap a barrel and receiver out in about five minutes and they cant give me some kind of timeline on long it will be?!!! Just really frusterated with the customer service at Remington. I've got a SPS 700 22-250 that's got the recall on it also. think ill just take my chances with the trigger. Plus I don't think I'll ever buy another Remington again over this deal! Sorry! Just had to vent!!

Ughhh....that's bad to hear. On the bright side, at least they are making it right by swapping the barrel for ya.

Sorry to hear about that. I hope it all works out. I've had good luck with Remington customer service in the past. Keep calling and you might find someone who can actually help. Even the best companies have a few knuckleheads that work for them. Try to be polite it will get you a lot farther than losing your temper(trust me I know from experience). When someone calls where I work and they start off rude, they don't get a whole lot of help from me.

In my long ago past experience Remington was pretty good, but have not had anything recent except for some ammunition problems. I am a competitive BullsEye pistol shooter (in addition to Trap & Cowboy Action) and bought some Remington Match .22 ammo that was junk. Out of the first 50 rounds, 10 were duds. Called them and sent it back and they replaced them. I gave them away and will never use their crap again. I only own 1 of their gun, an 870 Competition Trap shotgun that is wonderful, but would never buy one of their rifles...period. Yours is not the first I've heard about. Remington now owns Marlin and they have been junk lately. Some of our CAS shooters use the Marlin levers and the new ones (after Remington took over) are crap.

Sent my 700 SPS back last year and turn around time was 4 weeks.
The problem now is the triggers. You can't send anything in without it going thru the process. Last year all those misfires were operator error, Rem issues a recall to clean the triggers and suddenly everybody is scared to death. You would have been better off with an accurizing pkg and a new barrel.

I have a few Remington model 700 rifles and found out recently that one of them has the recall on the trigger. They have sent me the stuff to send the rifle back to them but I just can't seem to bring myself to ship it from everything I have heard. From everyone I have talked to it has taken at least 6-8 weeks to get them back and in some cases even longer. I really don't want to remove the scope and take the chances of sending it to them. Haven't decided if I just want to change the trigger myself, but if I do and anything happens what recourse do I have?

Same here. Had my 700 CDL all boxed and ready to go several weeks ago but never shipped it. Probably won't send it in now. Will replace trigger with a Timney or Jewell.

Yep, just buy an aftermarket trigger for any Remington you have and do the swap yourself. I have read so many reports about Remington and their lousy products (guns and ammo) over the last year or two besides all the trigger problems from decades ago that they did nothing about that I wonder if they even have any QC people on staff. I wouldn't have a Remington in my safes if they gave one to me! I would be more than smoking mad if I was the OP and was getting that kind of BS tossed back at me after waiting on the phone for 1/2 hour each time before I could even talk to someone!

My little brother took his Rem to a local gunsmith. To have him install a break. He noticed that the barrel was off. I cant remember how many thousands it was off. Butt enough that it really concerned him. Sent it back to Rem. They said it was inspec.

Droptine, I had a Remington 700 in .375 H&H that I bought new about 20 years ago. Right out of the box, I wanted to shoot it and see how much recoil it delivered. My friend and I were shooting at a BIG cardboard refrigerator box at around 50 yds with the iron sights, couldn't hit the box...either of us. I took the gun to my gunsmith for an evaluation, he called me later and said the barrel was out of round and it was the worst he'd ever seen. We contacted Remington and they said they used reject barrels by mistake.
They said to send it in...I did. I waited 4 1/2 months to get it back! What pissed me off, was that they sent me a NEW rifle, not my old one. They could have sent me that new rifle in a week. I traded that new one in where I bought the old one, the dealer gave me back what I paid for it, I bought a Winchester model 70 stainless classic in .375 and have been happy ever since.
I have a Remington model 700, I replaced the trigger with a Timney trigger first thing. If I were you, I'd do the same.

TIMNEY. Problem solved. Stock Remmy triggers suck anyway.

My elk hunting buddy bought a new remington 798 around 2009. This is the rifle with the mauser action. He couldn't get it to shoot for anything no matter what ammo he used or who was shooting it. He called remington multiple times and after persistence he was able to ship it back for repair work. After 4 months they said they had no one available that knew how to work on those actions because remington had purchased them from some eastern block european company. After 8 months of persistent calling they sent him a new rifle. By then the damage was done; he took the gun still in the box and sold it. I remember listening to him across the cube wall trying to get answers on his rifle so I know the story is not BS. His treatment was absolutely horrible.

The factory x-pro triggers are complete garbage!! Just buy a Timney or Shilen knock two pins out and drop them in and your set!! No waiting for Remington to spray cleaning solvent into their trigger and take up to 12 weeks turn around for that. The Rem 700 is the best action in the world period!! You go look at all the custom actions made and they base their design around the 700!! and not to mention the after market parts are endless. Happy hunting boys and girls!!

I have 1 model 700 that I won at a hunting banquet. It works well and I've taken quite a few critters with it. My brother on the other hand, had to have some work done and after a long drawn out ordeal, just received a new rifle. the majority of my rifles are Win. model 70's and if I buy anymore rifles that's what it would be. Good luck on your rifle, at this point I would probably call and just ask them to replace the whole rifle(send a new one)
I hope it ends up turning out ok for you, dealing with big companies and being put on hold over and over is sure frustrating. Hang in there!

droptine,

I am so sorry to have learned of your trouble. I hope your rifle is returned to you, in excellent condition, very soon.

I have no experience with newer Remington products. I do have a Wingmaster that's closing in on 40 years' old. It's an excellent shotgun. I have a Model 700 in .270 Win that is one of the best rifles I own. I'd sell my CRF Featherweight before I sold my Model 700.

The second most accurate rifle I have ever fired was a stock, off-the-shelf circa late 60's Model 700 ADL 7MM Rem Mag. That rifle would shoot well under MOA all day long, and nothing was ever altered on that rifle. No bedding, no trigger work, no nothing.

I have heard that Remington's quality control of late has gone the wrong direction. I have no clue whether it's true. Regardless, there is no excuse for lack of prompt attention to your very serious matter. BTW, did you ask the customer service rep how a rifle with a bad barrel managed to get by quality control?

I wish you best of luck with your rifle, and I wish you best of luck on your hunt(s).

Take care,

SS

I keep reading excellent stuff about Tikka rifles. I do not own one. Apparently Tikka guarantees MOA. And I have read many positive things about Savage as well.

I don't keep up on rifle manufacturers because I have more rifles than I need. In fact, I need only one good rifle. But, like most of us, I wanted more than I needed.

Were I really smart when I was sure I knew everything, I'd of bought a .280 Rem and never looked back.

Why is it that we have to grow older to grow wiser?

My Model 700 .270 Win is 40 years' old. Does anyone know what trigger Remington used then? I do know that I've never had any problem with that rifle. Should I put a Timney on it or stay with the factory trigger?
