Venting a little

IMHO a lot of these hunting shows are doing to hunting what ESPN has done to sports. I watch hunting shows to see the wildlife, terrain and learn something new. The guys that think it is all about them rather than the animal and the sport itself really turn me off. I would really have to question the motivation of a guy who would actually verbalize that he would rather not find a wounded bear than have his guide do his job and properly dispatch the animal.

I just read this article tonight. Quite shameful to read those words. Glad these thoughts are the minority.

Why do so many hunters want to be on TV? What happened to hunting because you enjoy it? Money turns people into jerks.

Hunters in general are some of the nicest, most down to earth people in the world. We'll help you if you break down, feed and shelter you if you stumble into camp lost and hungry. When we see each other in the field most hunters respectfully give each other their space. I've been in the backcountry and many times I see a hunter hike over a ridge. Once he spots me and sees I'm hunting an area he gives a wave and moves on.

Let's put qualities like hard work, honesty, ethics and respect on a pedestal and aspire to be better men and women. Don't put these tv hunters on a pedestal.

I think people's desire to be on tv has more to do with hunting for a living and getting free hunts that they normally would never be able to afford

I am not familiar with this person, or the show. Something seems very off about such a comment. I suspect he was grieved and disappointed (or even angry at the guide), and felt like a failure because the guide shot this bear, and under such conditions people do make comments they may not otherwise make. An impulsive moment. But, that aside, these comments also made it on a show. They easily could have been edited out. Ethically, a no no to pretty much every hunter. Ego can be a very ugly thing. Some people feel they are above the law and any form of ethic. It also wreaks of having no value for the game; the only value to him is in the killing and what it brings him. It shows a lack of maturity and character; a hunter that is stuck in the "trophy" stage on the hunter values continuum.

I read the comments in a magazine that was published well after the hunt. Also, Miranda is a "Super Slam" guy, so his killed hoards of wildlife. He should know better.
