I Think I am going to burn my 4 points this yr. I was considering unit 47. Anybody know anything about this unit south ofCasper? I'm open to other suggestions too. Thanks
2012 was a decent year in 63-2. That was the first year of type 2. It's gone way down hill since. I had the tag in 13 and 14. Never even cycled a round that last year.Myself & 3 buddies hunted 63-2 in 2012 we all tagged out. The bucks scored in the mid 70's. There is some awesome fishing in that area also.
What do you think happened? Drought, too many tags?2012 was a decent year in 63-2. That was the first year of type 2. It's gone way down hill since. I had the tag in 13 and 14. Never even cycled a round that last year.
IMO, yes. 2012 was terribly dry. It's hard to believe them maintaining the same amount of tags there when they cut almost every area around there after that. Landowners must have the bio in their hip pocket there. What do you think happened? Drought, too many tags?
Careful with unit 66, you will see plenty of goats, but in my experience they are all within the same size bracket, small. Easier to find 80+ goats in other units you could reach with 4 points. What people don't take into consideration about 66 is that the one shot competition has a good number of tags that are not listed in the regulations. There are more tags issued and lots more hunting pressure there than the regulations reflect. The area you settled on offers a better experience IMO.Look into unit 66 if you decide to change based on what you find out about unit 47. The research I have done tells me 66 is worthy of burning 4 points.
I have looked at 63 but have heard a couple negative reports last few yrs, like most of Wyoming. Have you hunted it before? I've kinda decided to opt for the special tag and try to get into a little better unit for trophy potential. Idk, maybe a waste of an extra couple $100s? So that said I've narrowed it down to units 68 and 75. I will probably wait till last minute to buy tag so any insight or other suggestions is appreciated. Thanks to all again. Said it before but you guys make this forum top notch;-). Hope I can help when I can.
Antelope can reach their prime horn growth at 3 years old. I would just go hunting if I were you. We're due for another hard winter. No reason to wait. Of the areas you mentioned, 75 would be my choice. So the 2011-12 drought was tough on fawns I was told, so I shouldn't expect to see 3-4 yr old bucks? What about 5-6 yr olds? When are they in there prime for antler growth? Should I wait a couple yrs to burn points or am I over thinking this?
