The later in the season the better IMO. Around the 2nd week of October. Lots of Goats & no hunters.

Really? Do they get pretty busted up during the rut? Is it true they will start hearding up more in Oct. If so, is that a advantage or disadvantage to shoot a mature buck.

There are different advantages to parts of the season. I like the end of September. The weather is still usually relatively mild, and the rut is in full swing. It's easy to see who lead dog is and the antelope rut is a kick to watch. However, it can be hard to get on the herd bucks as they surround themselves with does.
Later in October can give you a chance to see bucks together for comparison and usually most hunters have tagged out. The weather can be nasty, but often it is just fine. I was up that way in mid October this year. We went back to camp and put our shorts on one day.
On the flip side it snowed and got down to 10 deg on an antelope hunt in late sept in 2009. . . Snowed in late sept 2013 as well....

I think the pro about hunting during the rut is that bucks that normally spend their time on private land will run off it chasing does or bucks. The con about the rut is that it is very difficult to stalk them because they are moving so much - i.e. you drop into a wash and come up on the buck only to find it chased a buck and is now half a mile away.
The only negative I have seen later in the season is if you hit moisture the roads become impassible. I would also pay attention to when deer opens and avoid it like the plague if you are hunting a general unit for residents.

Chow. My pms aren't sending. I was wondering if you wanted to tag team 75 this yr. Wouldnt have to necessarily hunt together but could split the unit and compare notes at the end of the day.

Definitely if I end up there. I am only going to have 2.5 points averaged with my wife, so I need to read the tea leaves a little when the quota's come out before making a decision. Will pm you my number. Let's keep in touch.

75 would be my choice, have been in there a couple times. Lots of goats, last time we hunted the last week and didn't see another hunter. Just have to watch the moister, but there are some decent roads you can travel when it does get wet.
