We usually catch them in a live trap and give them to the local houndsmen to train pups with. For acute critter they sure can create a lot of problems.

Rabies is a big issue around here. Local vets say to shoot every skunk and coon we see. I had 2 family members attacked by a stray cat 2 years ago. They killed it and buried it. My sister made them dig it up and get tested. It tested positive. Had a friend who was raising a litter of Great Pyreenes and they were contacted by a racoon. Lost the whole litter and whole family had to take shots. Lead poisoning when ever possible.

I work for the odwc and I have to deal with these thieves on a weekly if not daily basis. I work on a wetland area and we have 50 duck boxes and 150 small nestboxes that get raided by the massive coon population. I also have a major hog problem but its hard to get the corn to the hogs to trap them because the coons eat it before it hits the ground! These varmints rank on my crap list right behind beavers and hogs.
