Tree Question and Introduction

Hi,

My Wife and I have the opportunity to move to Cheyenne for work (something we have been hoping for). One of the biggest things we both want to see in the area we live are trees. I know the subdivisions have some trees, however, we are not subdivision or town people and would like to live off the beaten path. We would like to be ideally 1/2 hour drive from Cheyenne. Are there any areas that have some type of trees, woods, or forest? Any help or insight you could send my way would be much appreciated.

As for myself, I'm a mid 30's East Coast hunter. I spend most of my time hunting Whitetail, Sea and Puddle Ducks, Turkey, Coyotes/predators, trapping, or preparing to hunt.

BTW: For those curious, I'm not bringing any east coast ideology to Wyoming, just a love for life and living FREE.

Thanks for the intro and welcome to the forum! I would not have any info for you regarding Cheyenne but I am sure there is someone here that can help you! Good luck with your move!

Out on Happy Jack highway by Curt Gowdy. You will be in a forested area. Only about 30 minutes from Cheyenne.

I have lived in Cheyenne for 31 years. As indicated by ssliger, there are some wooded mountain areas about 30 miles west of Cheyenne. There are also some small acreage home sites around the outskirts of Cheyenne that have established trees. These sites are not going to offer much in the way of hunting opportunities, but they are better than living in town (IMHO). They also offer close proximity to the amenities of the city.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to Wyoming! I hope your move goes well for you. The areas already mentioned are about the only places within easy access to Cheyenne with trees. Cheyenne is expanding quite quickly and there is quite a bit of building even outside the city so that is something to consider as well. I hope you find the perfect place and again, welcome to Wyoming! Its an amazing place to live.

If you shop much you will see the prices are very inflated near Curt Gowdy. IMO a person would be money ahead to buy land without trees for a fraction of the price and pay to plant some. There are many species that do well in that climate. Even if you pay $1,000 a tree for good sized trees, you will likely save thousands over buying on the hill. Just my 2 cents.

Another thing to keep in mind is the weather on the mountain is really different from Cheyenne. You will see significantly more snow up at Curt Gowdy vs Cheyenne.
