Transfer of Federal Lands in Wyoming

In Wyoming, Taylor Haynes, republican candidate for governor, is advocating the transfer of federal lands to state ownership. He has implied that he is willing to do this with the stroke of a pen regardless of the questionable legality. He has a full page ad about federal land transfer in the Cheyenne newspaper today. If you are a Wyoming resident, I encourage you not to vote for Mr. Haynes in the primary election this Tuesday, August 19th. Because Wyoming is a republican state, the winner of the primary will almost certainly become governor. Therefore the primary is more important than the general election in November. If you are concerned about preserving your hunting access to our public lands, please get out to vote on Tuesday.

Bad choice if he's advocating any such thing! What is his background to run for Governor in the primary? We had ours two weeks ago and I didn't realize Mead had that opposition! I hope everyone gets out and votes for Governor Mead, as I think he's a guy that knows his stuff when it comes to conservation and land issues, as well as being a great advocate of the G&F Department.

Geez, I see you can read a profile to see where I'm from! Where do you call home? FYI I've hunted out there most every year for over 20 years, have friends in three cities that keep me abreast of things that I might miss, and I spend enough time out there that I consider it my second home! This year I'll be out there for 7 weeks and I probably know more about Wyoming issues, it's government, and it's politics than a large percentage of the residents! I won't even comment on that statement you made, other than to say you are ill informed and are wrong to make it. All I would ask is that you study the issue thoroughly before you make statements that would have serious negative ramifications for all of us, regardless of residence, if this type of suggestion would come to pass!

I'm not sure what Dr. Haynes plan is, but it would cost the state about 1/2 of the total federal aid the state currently receives. I think that amount of money goes to reclamation and managing the federal lands. The state would have to come up with that money, and the taxes from the mineral rights and stuff I am not sure makes up for that huge loss of money and added expense. Plus rebuilding the infrastructure and departments to be state run would be a mess. WYDOT also does a lot of work on federal roads, and I think that there was a post on the other thread about that. With the ups and downs of a kind of boom bust of energy economy in these these times where fossil fuels aren't real popular, it can be kindof a stabilizing force to have Big Brother help out with some of the funding. I am not sure I am making any sense, but my point is there are a couple of gov. candidates that are a little too far out there for my generally middle of the road opinions, so the primary this year is important. The last gov. was a democrat, so I don't completely agree that the republicans always win here.

Thanks and I agree with your thoughts and that you can't "assume" anything, especially in politics! EDIT: After reading his biography my thoughts are that he should have kept his medical practice in Urology and stayed out of politics, LOL!
