To kill or not to kill??

I faced this dilemma this week. There was a group of 5 baby skunks in my yard. It was a though decision but between turning the AR loose and traps I don't think I will be washing the dogs nearly as often.

i didn't have the heart to dispatch these pups, there were 8 of them. (I only had my bow)Then after I got back to my truck I thought, that was $400.00 in bounty money.

Those are way too young, don't think I could do it either. Not sure when coyotes have the pups, but these ones were pretty big. Should of taken pictures.

If you come to a coyote den along side the road with 5 pups playing cluelessly in the creek bottom below, do you try to wipe them out or let them grow?
Mr. AR-15 is your friend. Let him help you eliminate those future fawn killing machines. Kill them all, coyotes are not cuddly and lovable...they are evil and must be destroyed!

Replace coyote pups with wolf pups and this discussion may be more one sided... I love to hunt adult coyotes but there is no way I could have shot the pups. I'm a believer that they have a role in most of our ecosystems but I believe more people need to hunt them in some areas to keep populations in check.

I would let them live
also do not have the heart anymore .but it's ironic that I would shoot the parents knowing the pups would starve. Just do not have the hate for them like I once did. Age seem to do that to you.

I would never think twice about skunks, raccoons and prairie dogs. They all carry the plague and rabies.

Skunks and coons close to the house are asking for trouble. Way too many rabies in our part of the country. Brother in law and his son had a stray cat attack them and it tested positive for rabies. A friend had his whole family suffer the shots after a rabid skunk got in the pen with a dog that had small pups and the kids had played with them afterwards.

I love putting cable on those dogs but I couldn't kill the pups. Something about being young and borderline helpless. Adult or even adolescent dogs have their survival skills, but pups? If it was a ranch or farm where I was tasked with thinning them though, they'd have to go.

I don't know my dog stages, but I would guess they were closer to the adolescent stage than the pup stage.

I was in big trouble with a few family members for not bringing a few of the little ones home for them to keep.

Last time I checked even the little ones were still coyotes! Kill them by any available means! They have very high reproductive rates and are in no danger of extinction

I would have done the same thing. There is no way I could have killed the pups, just not in my DNA. You did the right thing.

It's tough. The kind person says let them grow till they've reached their full size, not maturity. But it's nature. It's cruel, mean and deadly. That's reality. We've been so immersed in helpin things it's part of our nature. But it's life and death, the only thing that ultimately happens.

For all of you yuppies saying, "Aww, let the cute little puppies live", just put yourself in papa yotie's shoes. If papa yotie comes across one of your babies playing in the field, it's supper time, and yotie don't care how old supper is. (Ever heard the saying: Gonna feast like Dingos in a maternity ward!)

I've had dogs killed by coyotes, calves killed by them, and I don't even want to think about how many fawns they take off my place every spring. I eat backstrap. I eat beef. And my beagles help me put a few rabbits in the freezer every year. Coyote's are not a friend of mine, and I'm not gonna let one live if I can get it in the crosshairs.
