It's time to try to fiqure where to put in for Nevada deer again. Again I have 12 Non-resident points and I'm trying to shoot a 175+ buck, but I need a tag first. Any good suggestions where to put in for would really be appreciated.

There is 200"+ potential there. I've seem many in the 180"-190". The odds are low so I don't put in for that area much.

I've been putting in for 231 muzzleloader and rifle, 221 late. Last year I even put in a 5th choice 131 muzzleloader thinking with 11 points I'd for sure draw that, but my luck hasn't been very good. Years ago I hunted the ruby's during the muzzleloader hunt. It was a fun hunt, but I never seen a great buck, lots of nice ones. I had a unit 7 muzzleloader tag once, and after scouting a bunch with great luck, the sheep moved in. I've never seen anything like it, there was thousands of sheep, and the deer we had scouted where gone, it was a tough hunt, but we had a good time.

I am sitting on 19 non-resident deer points and am willing to wait another 10 years if I have to. I have been applying for only one area the past few years. I have a 183 buck from off the Sheldon (Unit 33) from back in the day, and I'd like to top that with a 190+ buck. Any recommendations? What units are regularly producing that quality of bucks?

194,196 late ONLY, 011-013, 111-222,early or late

Were usually finding lots of 185+ typical and non typical deer in 194-196, but not this year! This shortage of snow is killing this hunt. But for a normal year you can't go wrong with this hunt. NR is difficult to draw. 011-013 is a big producer of great bucks for all weapons but I think it's a little better for archery. 111-222 is another great producer of big bucks and big Elk. Do you want a guide or DIY? I can turn you on to a guide I know for the 111-222 area. The 194-196 I'll be happy to help you out with the info you will need. Let me know if you draw the tag.

Hmmmm 221-223, 014, 011-013, 033 is also great. The late hunt in 194,196 is killer.

Nvarcher and Ikeepitcold: Thanks a bunch for the info.

194-196 Late sounds like a great hunt, maybe the lack of snow this year will keep the big bucks alive for next year. Did you see any good bucks taken in 2010 on that hunt?

I have seen a couple great bucks from 011-013, I'll have to look at that unit a little more.

I love 033 and have hunted it for deer once and antelope twice. In 2010 the deer numbers were down seriously, but there were signs it was on the track to recovering.

I was told by three outfitters last year that 221-223 were really off in 2010. I need to see how it was this year.

I'd really like to go unguided if I find the right area. However, in the area I apply for the deer densities are so low, I would hire an outfitter in that unit.

Take a look at my PIW post in the Nv section. Not the biggest buck we saw but the story speaks for itself.
