The room is reserved. Antelope 2015 is officially underway. Pretty excited. We will be staying in and hunting near Wheatland Wyoming. Looking forward to my first Lope hunt. Anyone here chase lopes in that vicinity?

Good luck!

start learning how to judge them, boy are they tough for me! elk, deer, bears, far easier for me to judge IMO.

always seem to see antelope when I've driven through that area, they're all over WY it seems.

I've been wondering about that. I'll probably run with the old school advise, " The big ones just look big". I've never been in that part of the country.I plan to soak up the scenery, and enjoy the experience. I've been to western Colorado, and eastern New Mexico, but never Wyoming. I figure we should both connect on bucks.A wall hanger would be fantastic.Especially for my daughter. This will be our time together before she gets busy with college. We'll be hunting private land with a couple friends of mine. They've hunted the place before a couple times with good luck. I really should do some studying up on judging them. They are such cool critters.

Hello Three Tikkas. Good luck to you on your hunt this fall. Never been to that part of the state but hear the population is pretty good and you'll get to look over a bunch on private land.

Do you actually have 3 Tikkas? I only have 2, but really like them. A .270 win and a 7MM Rem mag in stainless.....I might change my handle to Two Tikkas. Just kidding- good luck to you!

Howdy Plains Hunter. I have had several Tikkas. Lets see here. 22/250,25/06,30/06,300 WSM,7 Remmy Mag,and a 338 Win Mag. I think thats all of them. I currently have 2. A 30/06 and the 7 RM. I'll post a pic or two later.

I hope we have good weather and a good hunt. This is pretty exotic to me. I have always been intrigued by the things. Being exclusive to our continent, and just pretty darn cool critters. Maybe as I get older, and the Rockies get steeper,I can still manage to get out for lopes.

Here are a couple Tikka pics for you Plains Hunter. I like the darn things. They have all been good shooters, and fit me pretty well.

This is a pic of the 30/06. I just gave it a paint job a couple weeks ago.

Next up is the 7 Mag. Coated and fluted bolt in a B&C stock. She's a one holer with either 160gr A-Bonds or Mag Tips. Likely going to Wyoming too.

Here is the 22/250 down in New Mexico on a coyote hunt a few years ago.

A group of 3 in 338 Win Mag,25/06,and the 7 Remmy.

The 22/250 was a good shooter.

The 7 Mag is a real honey. I have another 160 A-Bond target in the loading shanty that is just as good as this one.

The 338 was the worst of the lot for accuracy.

But,at a field ready weight like this,it's all I wanted for bench rest work. Could be the operator was off a little that day, lol.

Wow- you really have had a bunch of them. From .22-250 to .338. You got it covered from coyotes to Elk. I agree-they shoot well out of the box. My buddy bought one in .270WSM we took it to the range and it grouped really well so I bought a 7MM rem mag and a .270 win that my wife uses. I'm happy with both of them.

I've never tried the 160 Accubonds in the 7mm mag, but it looks like they group really well in your gun. I usually shot the 140G Nosler Partitions/Federal Premium and they usually group from .75" to 1.00" (could be me- 9X scope and I'm an average shot). Do you hand load the Accubonds or are they factory loaded? Nice paint job on the -06'

Never hunted by Wheatland but I believe the population is good in the area. I'm not good at judging them but they are a blast to hunt!

Nice buck buddy. I'm currently saving points in Colorado. I think I'm up to nine this year. What a racket. Point creep sucks. I was set on a second season hunt in unit 66. I won't live long enough to see that come to fruition. I'm considering a first season hunt in 66 or 67 and let her rip. Been checking out eastern MT as a future deer hunting destination. I should have done that years ago. Instead of playing the point game in Colorado. Live and learn.

Yeah,I hand load everything. The only time I shoot factory fodder is to acquire the brass. Mag tips and Accu Bonds are the only 160gr pills I've loaded any amount of for this 7 Remmy. Partitions didn't give the one hole performance the others did. Then I scored 500 Mag Tips on another forum. All set for a long long time.

Well hopefully you can cash your Colorado points. I've never hunted there and don't feel like starting on points for a new state. Point creep.....no clue as to how long I'd have to wait for a good tag and I don't know the state. Eastern MT isn't bad but the public land gets pounded pretty good. I'm not a trophy hunter so I'm trying to get tags for easy draw areas knowing my chances of a big one are slim. I just like to get out and hunt. The pic I posted is about as big as I've ever shot and it is a crabby 3X4 with brows. I just scale my expectations accordingly.

Hope you draw a Colorado tag this year and cash your points. Post pics of the big one when you get back.

I'll bet it did kick!

Three Tikkas- Any problems with the factory mounts holding the scope on the .338 in place? Just curious. I like the factory mounts ok but did end up putting on game reaper one piece aluminum mounts on mine. Only mod I made to my guns.

I know there are a lot of bad feelings a foot for the Tikka factory rings. I never had any issues with them. I do have Talleys on the 7 mag. Just because I guess. The 338 didn't trash the factory rings, though the scope was pretty light. A 3X-9X VX II. Coupled with the fact the 338 isn't a plinker or every day shooter. I don't know that I would want to run 40 or 50 rounds a week out of the 338 with the factory rings in place. Especially with a big ole heavy scope in them.

I have a buddy who uses the factory mounts on his Tikka .300 win mag (I think) and he didn't have any issues with the scope moving using the factory mounts. The gun gets shot maybe 10 times a year so like you said- not an every day shooter and this probably helps along with it being a 3-9 X 40 as well.

If I recall correctly, the Warne Maxima Tikka rings have a recoil pin that fits into the Tikka receiver. That would eliminate recoil induced ring movement I suspect. I have two, both 270's, factory rings on one, no issues, used Warne's on the other, no issues. But the 270 is not super hard recoiling, even in the T3 lite.

Tikka spend the $$ on Mike Eastmans pronghorn book. Well written and a ton of knowledge on judging. We used it 6 years ago in unit 57, killed book bucks and may not have without it. Heading back with our sons this year before they head off to college. Can't wait it is a great hunt. Good luck
