I'll nerd out here. While there have been 32 "lost" that doesn't mean they don't know where they went. These incidents, called Broken Arrows, include nukes that went down in flight (nukes on airplanes, not missiles) or damaged. Many of the broken arrows happened during flight when aircraft crashed or submarines sunk etc. I believe there are around 6 nukes the USA has actually lost that can't be accounted for.

Well that's certainly reassuring, only 6. !!!
