Billy Dixon was a famous Texas indian fighter who legend has it, shot one off his horse at a distance of around a mile with a black powder single shot buffalo rifle. I am an avid western history fan and compete in Cowboy Action Shooting and shoot black powder in competition.
He was a buffalo hunter who way back in the 1800 knocked a Comanche chief off of his horse and killed him at 1538 yards with a single shot.
You do realize that 1000+ yards on moa size targets is common now. There are 2 mile competitions now.
You need to read the story, Dixon wasn't on a horse but inside of a wall, the Comanche chief was on the horse.
Maybe take a look at the 175 gr EDGE TLR bullet. Good BC, fairly light for a high muzzle velocity, and tough enough to hold up to the velocity

Were you in the military? The reason I ask is I have heard every time folks in our armed services train for long range shooting, they record all of their shots. It's a lot more work, but it makes every trip to the range a learning session.
No kidding! I used to hunt elk in big pack boots from Whites. They probably weighed more than I needed, but I never had to head in because of cold feet!
I use Sierra Bullets in my 30-06, 25-06 and .220 AI Swift. I like them and have used them for many, many years. I have several hundred 150 gr BT Game Kings that I am going to work up a deer load for my .300 Wby.
Last year out of curiosity I tried Weatherby's factory 150 grain partitions out of my 300 wby. I shot a ~200 lb buck at 337 yards, dropped him in his tracks, pretty devastating. I tried the 150s because this particular rifle doesn't like 180s. I had been shooting 165s out of it for years so I thought I would try 150s.
I use 180 gr Nosler Partition for elk. My rifle likes them and does great. I have a custom .300, not a Wby rifle. I have also shortened up the freebore and it shoots great.
I already have a 20moa base. It's time to switch to a 40 moa base.
