Showers on a back country hunt?! Man.. I'm doing it wrong.

I just trade out merino wool underwear and t-shirt every day, and change the same two pairs of socks about every 8 hours. I'll clean my face and hands off with some baby wipes every other day or so.

Ditto; Can't pack in a shower. ;-)

Haha those aren't that common but it would be nice
Here in NV there are a great many of these natural hot springs. They actually are fairly common.

It was a 15 minute drive from my elk camp.

This is right smack in the center of my elk unit this year. It's also a great muley area.

+1 for the solar shower every few days - gets you clean and really does refresh your spirits at the same time. Scent free wipes are used otherwise.

there is an old truck stop on the HI way about 40 miles from base camp, ill make a trip there midway thru a long hunt and eat a good meal and shower. other than that wipes and lots of gold bond:)

We were doing a cabin a ways in. We had a solar shower set up pretty nice with a tarp for privacy. It was really pretty nice for the whole couple of months we were there.

Base camp = a large wall tent with a cooking and sleeping. We built a shower. Portable unit ( blue cube) that is powered off a small DC charger. Curtain hangs from the ceiling off a PVC square frame and the water drains into a small horse feeder rubber maid deal. that drains via a small hose outside the tent. Mix half hot half cold water for a very nice shower. Our base camp is on the edge of NF and we spike out from there 2-3 days at a time. I miss it this time of the year!

After my trip last year, I'll never use baby wipes again. I felt nastier when I finished; like someone lese said, it seemed to just smear the dirt around and left me feeling sticky. I used some unscented antibacterial wipes that were good but a wash rag and water as hot as you can stand it off the stove left me feeling truly clean. When I would dip it back in you could see it was working lol. That was some nasty brown water! That 1st shower after I came off the mountain was worth every penny.

Honestly, I do not do much. Merino wool, switching out socks, airing out boots and washing my hands/face in some water usually does the trick. I spent 7 days in the hot humid Appalachian mountains in TN, some articles of clothing had to be thrown away!

Thoughts on getting in a stream/river with bar of soap in SW Montana middle to late Sept? We will be there 15-17 days in the backcountry so I'm thinking I'd feel pretty nasty

I did that once in Utah in early October. We had been elk hunting for a week and it was just time to do something other than a spit bath. I grabbed a bar of soap stripped down and headed to the deepest part of the small stream a short distance away. I jumped in and got wet and then out, I then soaped down and back into the stream I went to rinse off. The whole process took less than a couple of minutes but I sure felt better, and I am sure that I smelt better.

Some of those streams can be surprisingly cold... Used a small stream in SE OR once in early Oct, it was warm during the day, cool at night. Boy was I ever surprised and had to immediatey adopt a different cleaning process, no submersion, just lots of splashing. Sure felt better after.
