Been offered a new "opportunity" so it looks like I get to move back to MO this summer. Haven't lived there since 2006 when I lived North of KC for 4 years. This time I'll be on the other side of the state in St. Louis. Anyone familiar with the area and have any info to share?

W2H, I would buy the Missouri conservation atlas and start there. Their is some good government land just down 1-44 from St. Louis. Sending you a PM now.

Most guys lease farms in the area. Leases are fairly reasonable if you shop around.

The deer hunting is excellent from STL West to Columbia, and everything North of there.. Specifically Callaway and Macon counties West of you, and pretty much everything up the Mississippi river. The turkey hunting is pretty much good anywhere in the state, with the exception of the bootheel. There's more morels than you can shake a stick at, in the Mississippi river bottoms. There's also quite a few duck hunting specific conservation areas on that side of the state, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

The company I work for has a headquarters in STL (Creve Coeur) and I travel there quite often. If moving there, I would recommend the west and south sides of the area. Lots of tows all grown in together, but from what I have seen these are the better parts of the STL area. I like the St. Charles area and west along the interstate the most... maybe because there is a Bass Pro close :) Wentzville is another nicer town that has grown a lot in the past few years. As far as hunting I can't help you out, but it all looks awesome every time I drive out there.

This is correct. I work in Creve Coeur and its a nice area. West St. louis county is very nice but expensive. South county is OK, but you start getting into a lot of rednecks (puppy mills and meth labs) the further you get in Jefferson County. St. Charles and further west to St. Peters is pretty much suburbia, nice, good schools, low crime etc. but it has crazy traffic. Kinda depends where your work is located. The bridges across the missouri and mississippi are always bottlenecks. If you work downtown; you might want to look on the Illinois side.

North St. Louis is considered the "bad" part of the region; thats where ferguson is located. White flight happened about 30 years; moved to St. Charles and St. Peters to the west. Its too bad, as its a really convenient area to be in; 10 minutes from airport, 20 mintues from downtown, etc.. and there is some beautiful areas along the Missouri river and the confluence with the Mississippi.

Thanks Fink. I look forward to the deer, turkey, duck, and morel hunting once I am back.

I don't think there are issues with the schools in west saint louis county or saint charles. Private schools are really a big thing these days; many elect to send their kids to them. I have more info on illinois schools if interested.

The one guy I know that lives in the Wentzville school district says his kids really like it. They range from high school to elementary (big family). One of the other guys I know just moved SW of St. Louis somewhere, but I can't remember where it was. His kids really like it as well. They live in a small town about 45 minutes from Creve Coeur and they go to a combined school for the county. Sorry I don't have much more info

Finally made it to St Louis to start house hunting. Got my house sold. Now I need to find a new one so I am not homeless come June. Saw 12 homes yesterday and only thought 2 are possibilities. Hopefully something better today.

Why did i agree to move.....what a pain.

Moving is not fun! But at least you sold your current home. Turkey and morel mushroom season is around the corner! You will find that house to call home!
