The few people I know that do use a bow use head loppers for that very reason. It?s either dead or unscathed.
I've probably killed 15 gobblers with a bow over the years, never lost one until last spring, I shot three toms in one morning, all looked like great shots, lost all three.. Ended up killing at least one of them during shotgun season. All the shots were well inside 20 yards, on strutting birds that didnt jump the string or duck or whatever.. Center punched them, and they ran off..
Made me really discouraged, enough to the point where I probably won't archery hunt them this spring. If I do, it will be 10 yard head shots only. Losing birds is the pits.

Headed to Florida the first week of March to hopefully finish my slam and notch another state. Work has me shutdown from March 10th to the end of April but I will probably hit Wyoming the first week of May and maybe Kansas on the way home. I already have a bird in Kansas but it's too much fun to pass up.

I will play guide for my sons and wife within a few miles of home. It is absolutely amazing how we went from almost zero turkeys 6-7 years ago to an abundance now. We have some on our property, and exclusive permission on 5 of the very best turkey properties around. If they get their birds early, I will then archery hunt for myself.
I echo what Crimson Arrow stated. Turkey population has literally exploded in our country the last 5 years. I too will be busy with getting my wife and three daughters into a bird. We may even take a trip to OK for Rios as I have a good friend down that way and it would get me one closer to my slam as I have my Eastern and Merriam.

Just booked lodging for the SD Black Hills for this Spring. Been a few years since hunting there as ventured to different states. Excited to go back. Such a cool hunt. Need to get a Florida hunt in for the Slam as well.

last couple of days the toms have been all fanned out in my neighbor's driveway on my way to work. flock of roughly 20 with a couple of toms. They just live in this clump of rural houses.

I won't buy a tag this year again. Focused on getting my son his first tom this year. He's got a spring jake, and a fall hen under his belt so far in his hunting career.
Good luck to everyone else!

Will chase them again in the Colorado mountains. My scouting time is less than 5 days from the opener so I'm hoping for a little snow left on the ground to find them quicker.

We have some real good spring turkey hunting here in the mountains of Maryland. Looking forward to calling in some Toms for friends and family again this year. I might even get to shoot myself this year. lol
Will try to head to our Ohio lease once or twice if we get a chance.

I killed a couple big gobblers around Grantsville Maryland about 12 years ago. Its got good turkey hunting there.

I will either hunt in Georgia and Pennsylvania or just Georgia. Not sure yet.

I have a hard time buying an OOS hunting license for turkeys. Hard to justify the cost as I can kill three birds in GA if I wanted to.
However, I limit myself here to only killing one a year. I see not reason to shoot more than one turkey per year in any given state.

I kill one and my wife kills one and that is enough for us. I guess I'm not as mad at the turkeys as I used to be. I used to kill a lot of birds every year in various states. I wish I had all of the gas money back I blasted on hunting turkeys lol.

Will be staying in my home state of Wisconsin as usual. I was able to fill all three tags last year. The first time I was able to fill all tags. Did it in 4 days of hunting. I’ll have even less time this year as the wife is in charge of a bachelorette party during one of my seasons, and I will hopefully taking my 4 yr old son out for the first time. I’m hoping he enjoys it. He already says he wants to be a hunter when he grows up, and he lives fishing.

Nv just gave out results for turkey. I’ve only hunted them once in Ca with no luck but did hear some gobbles off in the distance.
