Anybody else have any turkey hunts planned this Spring? I?m taking my brother to SD as a wedding gift. May not kill a bird but I?m sure it will be a good time. Plan on hunting the Black Hills for a few days then taking him out to a steak house in Rapid City before flying home. I?m sure we will test out some of the local brew as well!

Lost our spot three years ago...the same place my Dad, brother and I have been hunting since 1982. Farmer decided that his grand kids get to hunt now...not us. Sad, but it's his land, and his choice. No hard feelings.

Brother found another spot last summer...and we plan to chase turkeys there this spring. Looking forward to it.

I was very lucky to get mine. Me and a buddy met a guy at spring break in college that had property in Spring Hill FL. We stayed in touch and I got to kill one. Property has since been sold and the timber was cut.

When are you planning on coming up here? Love turkey season in the hills. I have off both opening weekends and beginning of the week for shotgun as of now. If you need help let me know.

I’ll be there the weekend of April 21st. Looking forward to it! If you know where a Tom is with a 12”+ beard, 1 1/2”+ spurs, 20+ pounds with no hens let me know. Preferably a short walk from the truck! In all seriousness I’m fired up to go put in some miles and chase some birds. I’ll be pouring over some maps over the next few months.

I'm excited for this spring. I have 2 first time turkey hunters lined up as well as my little guy who is a turkey slayer now- at 9 years old he has already shot 5 toms. I'm going to try to video him this year. I may even try to get one or two with my bow if I can make the time.

Trying to plan mine now. Really want to head back into the Black Hills, SD or over into MT. I got a ranch connection there but it just recently started having birds show up so I may give it a few more years.
Prob go into KS and either MO or IA, not to mention my home state of TN.

I will play guide for my sons and wife within a few miles of home. It is absolutely amazing how we went from almost zero turkeys 6-7 years ago to an abundance now. We have some on our property, and exclusive permission on 5 of the very best turkey properties around. If they get their birds early, I will then archery hunt for myself.

Lots of birds around and the winter seems pretty favorable for them so far. I'm glad to see your original post, it reminded me to apply! Good luck.

Ya. Gonna try again this year. Black Hills as well.

Learned a lot last spring. Trying to decide if we stick with archery or move to guns. I feel like I have something to prove in regards to archery.

Never tried archery. Guns are hard enough. Do you use he head loppers or a regular broad head?

I used a broadhead to arrow the turkey I shot last spring. Unfortunately, I did not recover that bird. Pretty broken up about it really. Learned a ton. For solo first time turkey hunting I was very happy to get a solid opportunity. After losing it I lost all confidence and stopped hunting for the spring. Ready to try again.

The few people I know that do use a bow use head loppers for that very reason. It?s either dead or unscathed.
