Seems like lots of people are signing petitions to get things across. Could be a great fix to to the population issues they are dealing with. I mean in all honesty who in the right mind is going to stop chasing elk to shoot a stinky old bear? The overlap of seasons has turned me off personally, due to priorities. Bring back the spring season!!

I wouldn't mind it coming back at all, as an outfitter that sees these bears year round and how the population is, we need this back pretty bad.
Some baiting would be nice as well to help guys that do want to harvest, maybe spring bear allows baiting but everything in the fall is just how it is. I will say one benefit of the overlap of the fall season is when guys do harvest an elk and have their bear tag they can sit the carcass and still be able to hunt vs being done. Many of my clients do this until someone else fills a tag then they have a buddy in camp and then they don't hunt bear as hard. I'd sign personally though and I'll bet there would be several DOW officers that would be willing as well. Sorry still call them DOW vs CPW

I would start trapping a lot more if we could use leg holds vs just live traps,

Where is the petition? Is it one of the on lines ones or paper?

I would gladly sign it. I do know that the CP&W have been talking about working to get the spring bear hunt brought back. But I am afraid that the trapping will stay the same as it is now. There are way to many Boulderites out there to change very much.

Yes trapping is definitely a unicorn in this state now. But spring bear could possibly make a come back although it could be a lost cause can't say til we try right? I think they need to do a "soft" opening with it, as in no baiting, no sows with cubs, no cubs, and limited licenses. Then if it gets passed the CPW can later on add in the other stuff such as baiting, and push it towards conservation stand point vs we want it back cause we wanna kill more bears. Best way to do this is make it to where the "less Informed" (I prefer that phrase over calling names) think it is saving the species and other species so it is needed really bad. Then they would probably vote on it as well. Tell them the black bears are killing off the secret colorado wolf population!!

I thought this was a joke, but it's not. Live traps only? My god. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go oil my pile of #330 Conibears....

No leg hold traps has been the law for a number of years.

Too many dog walkers were getting their dogs trapped as they walked along the trails, so the front range got a ballot measure to outlaw them.

Given the liberal leaning of this state (and EVERYTHING is driven by Front Range voters) I seriously doubt we will ever see leghold trapping OR a spring bear season in CO again.

Call me a pessimist, just callin' it like I see it.
