...Into Kansas, to chase a few jayhawks on the archery opener. Had an insane day, and I literally could have shot jakes on about 15 different occasions. We called in 4 strutters at about 930, and my buddy was able to connect. He left shortly thereafter.

From the time he left, until 130, the birds gobbled nearly nonstop, and I had turkeys within 20 yards of me for about 90% of the time. I was finally able to call a group of hens in, and they drug in 7 longbeards with them. After whiffing on a headshot attempt (dumb!), I reloaded, and wacked on that stood there gobbling.

From then, it was game on, as suddenly, a herd of turkeys poured out of the woods, and began thrashing my bird for a solid 30 minutes. I called in two more gobblers while they pecked at mine, but passed on shooting, as I wasn't ready for the season to end just yet. Shooting both my birds in 5 minutes last spring made me sad.

I love wackin turkeys!

Way to go Fink! Looking forward to turkey hunting here in Colorado too. Although something tells me it won't be near as good as what you've just described...

Looks like you had a good time! Good thing the wind died down a little today! My buddy tries for head shots too. He shoots those big ol heads that look like a plane prop... pretty cool stuff! I'm looking forward to getting out this weekend! Good looking bird by the way

Snuck back across the border yesterday, to finish up my Kansas season.

Drove 2 hours to the spot, walked a half mile to the corner of a wheat field, arriving to my spot at about 6:10. Bird gobbles, we sit down, he gobbles a few more times before I finally call. At about 6:30, he came off the roost and landed behind us about 40 or 50 yards. We could hear him drumming in the timber. When I heard him start spitting, I told my buddy "He's finished." He says "Yeah, here he comes."
He strutted his way into 10 yards, before I smacked him. Done at 6:38, Kansas season over. Drove to the local diner, had a delicious chicken fried steak for breakfast, got teased by my waitress when I couldn't finish it.. All in all, a good day.

I just put him in the smoker, the Mrs. is excited for smoked turkey sammiches this week.

Congrats Fink!! I had a blast up there last year. Only had one day off in the last 24 days. Haven't made one hunt yet. Planning to head up that way the first weekend in May
