Another thing to consider is how well will it hold up when going through the brush. A friend had some rain gear that was great at keeping the rain out, but once he got in the oak brush it tore it to shreds. If your having to buy rain gear every year it can get expensive, even if it cheaper.

I have !:( Actually probably not the same, but a lot worse.

"I don't always wear rain gear but when I do; Its GORE-TEX."


I wear Gore-tex drysuits suits in my job.
Pretty much the same material in a good rain set goes in the suits that keep out sea water.

It is not light but it is packable (maybe not ideal for backcountry packs).

I use Sitka rain gear, it is pricey but very good. It is pretty light and packs well but does not pack down into a super small area like most backpacking rain gear. It is durable and seems to hold up well as long as it is not abused and taken care of. I have never gotten wet and I have spent days in the rain. I also use my bottoms for crawling in meadows on early season archery hunts when the ground is soaking wet. My advice would be to save up and spend once on something really good it will pay off in the end.

I have never done the shower test but have been in very heavy rains for extended periods of time!

When doing a shower test you should be sure you wife is out of the house. I bought an Avian X turkey decoy and the instructions said to run warm water over it for several minutes after it is inflated for the first time. To conserve water I took it into the shower with me. Sure was an odd look on my wife's face when I stepped out of the shower with a full sized hen turkey decoy in my hands.

Would be curious to know it that stuff works. I've seen it myself over in Mason City and up in Owatonna but have never been sure enough to buy it.
