I would guess the followup shot was at a different ram then the first shot or he thought he missed the first shot and then shot at another ram and hit both or there was a ram behind the ram he was shooting at and the bullet went through and hit both. Something like this happened in Nevada a few years back. I believe the hunter hit 2 rams with the same bullet.

Has anyone heard any more about this? I haven't been able to find anything out about it.

He shot one ram, didn't go down so the brainiac shot at the other ram. Both dropped, they called the warden and got off with a warning. I believe!

Yea this does sound a little fishy to me too. Did he just figure they kept his money and think nothing more of it? A friend of someone on the
IF&G board maybe?

The unit 11 Bighorn Sheep draw tag holder from 2012 that was granted a rain check for 2014 for his irresponsibility to verify his draw results has taken his irresponsibility into the hunt. He has shot and killed two big rams on his hunt. Unit 11 which has been one of the state’s best units for producing trophy big horn rams was faced with a large fire this year and now has an additional ram harvested that was not planned for. The herd in unit 11 is not large and factors like this will take this unit down for potential hunters in years to come. IF&G is investigating this but it appears where he did turn himself in they are going to slap his hands with a warning ticket and will allow him to take his pick of the two rams and confiscate the other ram. It appears the outfitter that was assisting on the hunt will walk away with not even a hand slap. A sheep hunter did this same thing in Washington and he paid the price for it. Got to question who is regulating Idaho because it is not the IF&G.
While I was reading the link about the rain check, I did see an (article?) about a hunter shooting 2 rams. I had no Idea that it was the same guy who got the rain check....boy, "This thing is like an onion, the more layers you peel...the more it stinks" (Seinfeld quote)
And the guy AND his outfitter get verbal warnings? And the Minnesota hunter loses his bull elk for taking too long to tag? What the hell is wrong with this picture?

Yes and it's making me cry.

How could they even consider giving the guy a rain check if it states that you are responsible for knowing whether you drew the tag or not? IMHO nobody that puts that kind of money out for a tag for a sheep would not follow up to see if he got the tag or why he didn't get a refund. Is it possible or probable that he got the tag and hunted, but didn't get the ram he wanted and came up with this story? Now to read that the same dude took two sheep on the followup hunt and only gets a warning really makes it smell fishy. This and that other deal on all the kids getting tags they shouldn't have and the G&F letting it go sounds like they need some new blood in the Front Office making decisions!

TG, that is what I've said from the start because with my experience with F&G, if it was me they would've told me good luck next year.

As far as I'm concerned the outfitter that was guiding him should be fined hefty and possible loose his license because you shouldn't let your client be that reckless.

And to top it off, he owns a collections agency. Sounds like a real sleaze-ball.
