Self Defense bear spray vs pistol

Guys, I am happy to see all the back and fourth, the conversation further identifies that we have spray and gun people. My position is that attacks happen about half the time when little to no time is available to ready yourself. The other half of the time some level of false charge takes place.
A bear charging from any distance is an issue but if we have time to see, recognize, choose a plan and engage with a response we are very lucky? Compound reactions are not what we are looking for here ? The muscle memory and immediate action must be deliberate and unconditional as tenths of a second count. I choose not to carry spray because it is yet another decision to be made before I launch a response. Cops call it an escalation process, we have no legal restrictions or requirements to use a escalation. We also dont have the luxury of time in most situations to do so. So, why not stream-line the process, practice your response and use enough force to resolve the situation. If we use what little time we have with an unpredictable tool we may not get to transition to an effective use of force to survive.

The draw odds are improving in Northwestern Wyoming with each post of this thread lol. We need to design the bear spray suit- it goes off in all directions with a simple string pull or defaults when the wearer craps his pants.

Every single time I head out my door I'm in grizzly, black bear, cougar, and wolf country. When I'm hunting big game I have my rifle and a can of bear spray, when I'm hunting birds or small game I have either a shotgun(with slugs in the pocket) or a rimfire and bear spray. When I'm hiking and backpacking I carry bear spray. I've seen it tested on the RCMP and it looks pretty effective. Most of my friends hike with a defender style shotgun loaded with a couple of bird shot followed by slugs and buckshot and a can of bear spray. I backpack solo and sleep in bear country, a can of bear spray is close by always. More importantly is to be aware of your surroundings and keep a clean camp. If you're relying on a pistol it better be big and you better be good with it. I wouldn't put the effective range of a pistol much further than bear spray, except for the noise.

I'm surprised no gun manufacturer has come out with a bear spray and gun combo. Then people could just have both and figure out something new to argue about.
For me it's real simple. It's your life, carry whatever you feel you can handle in that situation.

I have roamed the mountains of alaska, british columbia, idaho and montana all of my life. Alot of it solo. I have had many predator encounters. With that said, the bears around the greater yellowstone ecosytem are not like other bears that have been hunted. The gye bears know they are protected and act that way.
What ever you want to carry is up to you, but after being around bears in multiple places, you just can't compare other grizzlies to the ones in the gye. I thought you could and was wrong, no i did not get mauled, or charged(have been before) but had one very scary encounter there solo.
