That sounds real nice and I will surely keep it in mind! I lived in Salmon for 2 years 95/97 ! Worked at the gold mine in Leesburg and was there when the first wolf reintroduction took place! haven't been back since I left and would love too get back up there. Thanks for the invite and good luck with the buildI'm building a small cabin in Elk Bend 20 miles south of Salmon, ID with river frontage on the Salmon river to be used as a hunting/fishing getaway for myself. It will have separate bedroom, kitchen, fire pit, bbq, etc. Units 28,29, 30, 37, 37A are close. Since I will only be there for a few weeks during the season, it will be vacant for most of the season. Lots of deer and elk in the area, although most bull hunts are draw, except for archery. Great steelhead, trout and salmon fishing at the right times.
Trying to see if there is enough interest to rent out when vacant. Should certainly be better than a motel and less expensive than a lodge. Would be able to accommodate 4 people for DIY hunts. I was going to rent for $500 a week, or $80 a night to help recoup my building costs. I've done this before with a different vacation rental and it worked well.
Since I know the area fairly well, I have general areas to show where to hunt. I'm not a guide so not offering that service, just a place to hunt & fish with good populations of deer & elk around.
Anyway please let me know if interested and, also if it is okay to post something like this on the forum![]()
Idk you could catch salmon inland where no oceans connected. Love to go catch a bunch of salmon for sure!! Is this good fishing line Alaska salmon or difffent kinda salmon?
I believe Idaho is the only landlocked state in which you can catch salmon and steelhead. The salmon are chinook and some of them are really good size. These fish travel about 700 miles before they reach the town of salmon. There are places they've made around dams to allow the fish to make it upriver. There are a few hatcheries that raise them and clip their adipose fin. The wild ones don't have the clipped fin. You can only keep fish that have the clipped fin.
The fishing can be slow, I believe they say steelhead are the "fish of 1000 casts), and sometimes it can be really good. Once they enter the rivers from the ocean, they stop eating. All the fish this far up have empty stomachs. You sort of have to irritate them into biting, as it is not for food.
I would think the fishing would be much better in Alaska, but this gives us a chance to catch some closer.
