I just received an email from SPOT informing me that the current plan that my device is under contract to SPOT is being discontinued. The new program will cost $149.95 annually vs the $99.95 I currently pay. Hard to find out exactly why a 50% increase, but for me it seems to be just a little bit greedy. I will decide soon if I will continue using this service.

I've been looking into getting a satellite device and as far as I can see, the biggest reason for the SPOT was the lower plan price. I'm leaning towards the DeLorme.

Seems awful expensive for something a person doesn't use all the time!,
I agree. If they lowered the price they would get more customers and have a chance of keeping them long term. But at $150?? It just pushes people to other devices.

I just cancelled my SPOT contract when it expires in August. Havn't decided what I am going to go with now.

Anyone interested in a deactivated SPOT receiver....LOL!

I haven't pulled the trigger on a unit yet but probably will purchase a Delorme, seems like there contracts are extremely flexible and they offer many choices in different price points. Plus I like the fact that you can send a text message

I went delorme,,,though I was notified that garmin bought them out,,,as far as I know still no changes in sat monthly activation prices that seem more reasonable than the spot plans.

I was just dealing with this dilemma yesterday. I searched for discount codes for my SPOT subscription and could find none. I'm considering doing somethig else too. A 50% price increase is unreasonable, especially to faithful subscribers of SPOT service.
