Ruger No 1 .300 Weatherby

Those of you that have read my other thread about destroying my custom .300 Wby, know I probably will be looking for another one. I have always wanted a Ruger No 1, it seems like a good time to get one.....in .300 Wby. Looking for one.....................

Go for it. I love my 2 #1's. One in 22-250 and the other is a 270 Weatherby mag.

On the African forum that I am on there are quite a few members who love them also and there are a few very long threads going on about them. Then there are the ones that they are converting to 500 Nitro Express.

If I hear of one I'll let you know.

Have you thought about finding a #1 in 300 Winchester mag and then having it re-chambered?

While Ruger did make runs of the .300 Weatherby them may command a premium price if you find one, but right now everything is commanding a premium price.

I have found a couple, but the rechamber is an option. I am not in any hurry except if I find one that I really like. My 30-06 will do me fine for elk this year.

Sir, very glad your rifle issue didnt hurt you! I have purchased a No1 in 7mm rem for my dad years ago, it wasn't the best in the accuracy department. I read years ago about a tensioning -set screw modification that put pressure on the barrel hangar done by a gent in Maryland. the before and after accuracy was very good. You may want to look into that modification.
The N0 1s are great, some of my biggest regrets are around No 1's and 2's that got away over the years.

They are still making #1's. Right now they are cambering them in 257 Weatherby, 275 Rigby (7x57), and the 6.5 Creedmore. Plus there are other production models for individual wholesalers or distributors that want something special.

My mouth started drooling when I saw that 257 Weatherby on their list of current production.

On the accuracy, that forend screw can and does affect it depending on the tension that is placed on it.

On my 22-250 if it is too tight the best group that I can shoot is about 2" at 100 yards. Get it just right and you can put 5 shots into a single hole at 100 yards.

I found a pretty good deal on a #1 in .300 Wby. for $1,100. Pictures are being text to me and fif it is as good as I think it is, I'll be buying it.

I just bought the #1B. It is NIB and unfired. Comes with rings and has real nice wood with a beavertail fore end.

I believe that you will really enjoy the new rifle. I know that there is a devout following of the Ruger #1 rifles.

When you are sighting it in and if the group is not what you like try tightening the fore end screw or loosen it a 1/4 turn. My #1 in 22-250 is very temperamental on the tightness of this screw. But even when it is not grouping as well as it can it is still accurate enough for most hunting.

But that drive is a long one, I usually make it once a year.
