I need the members input.
What type of rifle sling works the best as I am having a problem with my rifle sliding off my shoulder and have seen some holders that position the barrel on your side for easy access.

Has anyone used one and do they attach to a backpack or are they part of the pack?
Thanks again everyone for the info.

For a rifle sling I like the Montana sling: Pat is a good guy and I have 2 of these slings, really like them.

For packing in, or hiking in the dark, with a loaded pack, etc. I like the Kifaru gun bearer:

I use the Claw sling and that sucker really grips on the shoulder no matter what garments you have on. It is quiet, simple, and it works. It stays on your shoulder even if you have a pack on your back and the shoulder straps are under the sling.

I ordered a Kifaru rifle sling this year and I really liked it. Hooks to the hip belt of the backpack and so there is no strain on your shoulders. And it's hands free!

I use the Butler Creek Magnums and cross carry. Packs I'd prefer a scabbard right up against my back (like the H2 Gunrunner).

I use Stone glacier gun holder and my girlfriend uses a Kifaru gun bearer. I personally like the gun bearer a little better it's easier to get back on the pack after sitting down to glass or take a snack break while hiking but it does take a little getting used to.
I also have one of these of my packs shoulder strap. It works well and is easy to use and install any anything from a small day pack to a large hauler. http://www.slingsaver.net

The Kifaru Gun Bearer is what I use and it has been great, if you need a carry system with your pack. The rifle can either be strapped to your pack, or you can carry it in the forward position for hands free carry with quick easy access. You can check it out on their website and there are some youtube videos of it as well. My rifle has a 26" barrel that is fairly heavy and it does well securing it.
Good Luck

I shoot a leather military sling, adjustable with brass hooks. Great for carrying a rifle and if you learn to use it to aid in shooting you will never need a bi-pod again. Although to be honest, if actively hunting I never carry the rifle on my shoulder it is always in my hands unless scanning quickly with binos and I use the rifle scabbart on eberlestock pack to get into or out of mountains once hunt is over. I guess I really just use the sling for a shooting aid.

I have a safari sling that I found on Amazon for just under $30 that works great for letting me use both hands. I use walking sticks when elk hunting and this worked great keeping access to the rifle and not having to push the sling back on my shoulder.
