Some of you my remember about the problems I've been having with my rt ankle. After surgery last February, which did not go well, I have another surgery scheduled the first week of November to replace my rt. ankle. Last week I had a ct scan which confirmed that my ankle is totally gone. The scan also measures all the dimensional stuff in the ankle and a custom made replacement is made using the data.

Been having lots of problems for the last year. Cortisone shots help a little, but can't do that for long. The surgeon gave me 3 choices: do nothing and live with the pain (and pain killers), fuse the joint and have no mobility or a new joint. Not much trouble picking the option! Should be back on my feet in 4 weeks and then in PT. About 6 months healing. Should put me ready to start gym work by May/June for next fall. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all goes as planned.

Good luck CC, I had ankle reconstruction 8 years ago at the wonderful age of 27. Not to worry you but I'll take 10 more knee surgeries over another ankle.

Thanks everyone. Being 72 years old, it's either this or quit hunting, you know what my answer is for that. Fusing the ankle was not an option in my mind as I would not have any walking or hiking ability at all.

Good luck with your surgery C.C. I hope you have a 100% recovery and get back at it soon! You'll want that ankle in good shape for packing that moose!

Went to my family Doc this afternoon and got a cortisone shot in it. Feels 100% better, too bad it only lasts a few weeks. I'm ready for Hawaii, leave Monday!!! Will be doing lots of diving, snorkeling and may some fishing.

Wow, didn't know they could replace ankles. I hope they perfect it because I have one that is going to need it! Good luck and prayers for a speedy recovery.
