Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra or Ford F150

According to this article, a Chevy Silverado is only 62% comprised of American parts vs. a Toyota Tundra at 75%. A GMC Sierra is only 62%, a Ram 1500 is 70% and an F-150 is 75%, same as the Tundra.

That leaves just the profit and OH is right, that goes to a Japanese company, but they are providing Americans with jobs and I don't mind them making a profit on that. Plus, as I said, I think you'll spend less on repairs than on Ford or Chevy trucks. It all works for me.

Interesting stats and good info!! Im not trying to say Toyota is a US company at all. But some US companies are not all US anymore either. Recently read somewhere Chrysler is majority owned by Fiat.

I love Toyotas - IMHO, consistently the most reliable, least repaired vehicles out there. My best buddy drives a Tundra and never puts any repair money into it, just routine maintenance.

Tundras are 75% made of American parts so I don't know how much it matters whether you buy a US or foreign nameplate.
Ugh, my experience couldn't have been more different. I worked at two different firms that were both using Tundras for their fleet trucks. Both companies got fooled once and were then finished with Tundras.

Those trucks were constantly in for repair and the motors really got tired after a couple years of hauling survey equipment around. It is all Fords and Chevys now.

Just to add another wrinkle, all these companies are publically traded on the NYSE. How many Americans own Toyota or Honda stock? How many Middle-Eastern hedge funds own Ford or GM? Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if the Chinese owned a majority share of Ford and Toyota. I'm not sure it matters where corporate HQ is anymore.

==============================

I like the new F-150 with the V6, decent mileage and I don't really need more power than that. I just have to wait a few years until they get a bit older -- I never buy anything new or near new.

Toyota Motors' (TM) stock surged more than 2% when the automaker reported a net profit of $3.2 billion, which was more than three times its net profit a year ago. Revenue also increased by 18%. The Japanese automaker performed well in both Japan and North America, the two regions from which it gets most of its revenue. The company has been losing out in China due to the Senkaku/Diaoyu island dispute between China and Japan. However, despite a massive loss of sales in China, the company still managed to push the global net profit forecast up from $9.45 billion to $9.7 billion, which reflects its strong performance in other parts of the world.

Don't forget that a lot of that profit was from currency translation as the Bank of Japan pushed the value of the yen down dramatically.

Put that $9 billion in annual worldwide profit in perspective. Compare how much we got in the way of jobs and trucks for that profit of a few billion compared to our government spending $800 billion on stimulus in 2009 alone that according to several studies ended up accomplishing almost nothing. The only good part of what they spent, and it was in a different bill, was the money they loaned GM to keep them in business.

Nobody is questioning that Toyota is good for the USA. It's just not an American owned company. So, it's not an American vehicle.

Just the way it is.

There's another way to look at it too. If they weren't here. You'd all be buying American trucks.

Negative on the V8 for me. The old shock 6 cylinder is pretty easy on gas and has plenty of power for what I use it for around the farm here and a bigger engine would just tare up the rest of the drive train. It has been in my family since 1973 and is what I learned to drive in when I was 7 and it is going to stay like it is!

It runs, drives, stays in all the gears and has brakes, what more could I want:) I I went through the axles and brakes 2 years ago. My dad rebuilt the engine in 1973 and its a little tired now but still runs pretty good. It had a rebuilt transmission and transfer case then too and they still work fine. It has spent most of its life in 4Low on our ranch. I plan to fix a few things on the body but honestly its pretty much been like it is now ever since I remember it and I dont really want to change it tomuch.
