I am in favor of this. Imo it will really help with hunting pressure in some areas, especially SE Wyoming.

To put it simply, I think this will make the quality of a Wyoming general hunt better.

I have hunted elk since 1989 in virtually the same couple of mountain ranges. In my 11 days out this season I saw more hunters than I have ever seen. In some areas the hunter density was similar to what Colorado OTC hunts are like. I believe this regional approach will help with that problem. This will spread non-resident hunters out across the state while placing more in areas where elk really need to be harvested.

This will keep residents happier, and more tolerant of non-resident hunters which is a win for all imo.

Tag numbers will go up and down as populations fluctuate but I don't foresee numbers going down anytime soon. Elk are doing great in Wyoming.

The trick will be setting the quotas based on the most recent data about elk numbers and desired bull/cow ratios. Understanding that and moving forward with it will be the biggest challenge.

That could allow a few extra tags for NR elk hunters. The only problem I see with regions is knowing which area to apply for. Now you can draw a general tag and then research where to hunt. Of course you should do your research prior to the draw anyway. It might end up like deer regions where some require years worth of points.

When you say SE Wyoming what areas are you talking about?

Most of the issues I see down that way is access, range riders pushing elk back to private and roads being closed for no reason.
