Preference points/drawing in Wyoming and other states

The last 2 years I only selected and drew region A in Wyoming. On our hunt last year we talked to another group of hunters that insinuated if we would have applied for a "hard-to-get" area being our #1 choice with the easier units being our 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice and drew say our 3rd or 4th pick, we would also accrue preference points for the 1st choice. Is that correct? I want to hunt Wyoming again this year but know I don't have a shot at say area G because I have no points. I guess what I really want to know is can I build preference points while also still hunt somewhere else in the state? Thanks!!

You are correct. First choice is the only choice that you will lose your points if you draw. Just make sure that you can draw the unit that you want to hunt now, as your second, third, etc. choice.

Not going to be able to just buy a leftover this year (unless they're leftover from the second draw)...there's going to be a second drawing.

Worth considering since I'm sure many people that have waited for the leftover list the last several years, may very well end up applying in the initial drawing for second and third choices.

I think waiting and having to go through another draw may result in quite a few people riding the pine instead of hunting Wyoming.

Could be wrong.
