Years ago there was a buck that defined what "big" was to me, and it was Mike Eastman that brought him to my attention. I was lucky enough to read about this buck in the Journal and saw winter range footage like this on the classic videos from Eastmans'. Anyone else a fan of this buck?

Loved the stories about this buck. What an amazing deer he was. Mike also had film of another huge mule deer buck around the same time but I can't remember his name at the moment. Goliath or something like that.

I didn't know Mike spelled his name Micheal, rather than the typical Michael way that I spell mine. Another big one besides Popeye and Goliath was one they called Morty.

If I remember correctly he was named Popeye, because if you ever saw him your eyes would pop out. I still think I have my old VHS tape of him that I got with my subscription.

Amazing buck and I am glad no one got him there needs to be a few like that.

I must say that this video is way better than the one produced by the gas and oil companies that said the only reason he was alive was due to the gas and oil drillin in the area LOL!!

I remember a long time ago, at least 17 years ago, I was at one of my HS friend's house and he pulled out this video of the Popeye buck. I don't know who produced it. I didn't even know about the Eastmans back then. That buck always stuck in my mind and I never heard of it again until David Long mentioned it in his book. I can only dream about what it'd be like to see a buck like that in the wild. I would be just as thrilled to shoot that buck with a camera as I would with a gun or bow.

Agreed Rob- Seeing a deer like that would make anyone's season a success.
