My wife had an idea to paint some deer and antelope shoulder mounts just something different and if nothing else they make great conversation pieces. I was able to find some shoulder mounts through some different auctions, mostly for $30-$50 so about the right price range to try it out. Just thought I'd share with you guys to see what you all thought, so far people have either loved em, hated em or they grew on em.

This goat hangs in my boys room.

First off, love the cheesehead!
I like the one antelope that has less paint on it, I think it looks really nice. The one that has more paint not so much, and for whatever reason not on the deer at all.
Cool idea though, thanks for sharing!

I've seen painted skulls before but nothing like this. I have to say I'm also in the hated em group.

Ya, we've had a few people not like them too much but several like it (mostly men who hunt don't like it and women in general like them a lot, small observation), but the way we see it, as 'art' I think it does it's job, people talk about it whether they like it or hate it! Also I would never do this to my own mounts, that's why I got them through auctions, I find it easier to paint mounts that cost me $30 instead of $500.

Not trying to a start a war here, but I think that is disrespectful to the animal. I have an antelope mount and my wife wanted to use it for a hat rack. No way. I think we have an obligation to the animal to treat it with respect once we take it. I saw one in a bar once that had a bow tie on. Never been back. I know this is all just my opinion, but I'm against it. Just doesn't set right with me and doesn't seem to be a good fallow up to a fair chase hunt. BB

You're not going to offend me, everyone is sure entitled to their opinions, I always find it interesting what people think about them.

First I've seen done like that, seen plenty of painted skulls. These are not my cup of tea, but I can see that some might like it. I've got zero issues with the idea, heck my youngest son hangs his sports award metals off a deer rack or two at the house and one mount proudly wears a Beavers baseball cap. To each their own...

I think you're spot on with the evaluation tperry, that hunters don't think much of it and that non-hunters and women like it. I guess that girly-men would absolutely love it. Fill a truck and bring them to a San Francisco auction and you'll make a fortune.

I don't find it disrespectful to the animal in any way, shape, manner or form. But like most here I don't like it. And I don't like painted skulls either .

I agree with the others. Definitely not my cup of tea, but I could see someone using this idea for art or for decoration of some sort. Western Art Gallery maybe. I am like you definitely wouldn't do my animals like that. Have seen European skull mounts painted that look cool. Seen a bison once. Tperry maybe you can do your bison that way. What are your plans for the bison? Oh and congratulations again.

Right now I'm working on cleaning up the skull for a European mount and a plaque for it, I'll post some pics when I get it done. I probably won't be painting it, I don't mind painting other peoples trophies tho... ;)
