I have been using the Octane Hostage Pro for the past couple of seasons. It still gives you complete containment like the whisker biscuit without having your vanes pass through any whiskers. It has been a great rest.

Ripcord all the way, I used to shoot a trap door but had too many arrows fall off in the heat of the moment.. Love how it locks up and is fully contained.

Shot a QAD ultra HD pro series for awhile but it failed me, for some reason when it got cold I could not cock the rest up into the upright position. As a company they do not recommend you to shoot the rest with out cocking it. So after having a whole season with it doing that I contacted the company and they had me send it in so they could fix it. Needless to say it took about a month and a half to get a brand new rest back, plus they had pretty good customer service was impressed with them. While I was waiting for a new rest got stir crazy and bought a whisker biscuit. If you tune this rest right you will drive tacks out to long range. So I have a brand new QAD rest sitting in my archery box just in case I want to switch back. But its total preference!

i have had the QAD pro on my destroyer the last two years. i cant speak for any other rests but mine, but i do a 7 mile pack in elk hunt every year. camp elevation is at 10,500', hunting elevations range from 10,000' to 12,000' and temps have been anywhere from 70's to this past year of teens. My rest has never failed me and my equipment gets abused.....climbing on the rocks at timberline down to belly crawls in the grassy meadows at lower elevations, it has worked flawlessly. tuning was as simple as it gets and the containment speaks for itself.

last year it was cold and snowy for the whole week. never had a problem with the temps or the precipitation...worked awesome. i would buy it again. good luck in your search.

I'll put in another vote for trophy taker. They are a very solid, very reliable rest. I shoot the Trophy Taker full capture with the side load slot. Quiet and fail safe. I always keep a finger on the shaft so I never have problems with arrows bouncing around the cage. Just a learned habit from the days when there was no such thing as containment.

When I was in college I worked at the local sporting goods store. On a side note, I'm still looking for a new shop as it was blown away by a tornado nearly a year ago. I live in Joplin, MO where we got hit with an F5. Kind of sad to see my old employer that had been in business since the 50s just disappear.

Anyway, while I worked there I probably saw twice as many whisker buscuits come through the door than anything else. It's a proven rest, and the one I use. Only negative I can see (and this isn't to be dismissed) is a little noise. I've worried about it some when treestand hunting. I still probably won't change any time soon.

I like the whisker biscuit as well. I know there are more accurate rests out there but when crawling through c.r.p, milo, or weeds, I think a full capture rest w/ no moving parts is critical. Sometimes just before you nock an arrow you have to pull out grass from your sights and rests, the whisker biscuit is no maintainence.

I also like the ripcord rest its nice to be able to not worry about your arrow falling off when your on a stalk .And its easy to tune
yep, it seems solid too. I suppose any mechanism can fail, but this unit responds so clean. I sense the machining is superb.

Thanks for all the replies! I've tried more rests in the last year than all my years combined - and I'm even suprising myself at this point in that I look to be settling on the whisker biscuit. It makes no sense to me - I have spent 18 years of bowhunting/archery taking all precautions to avoid vane/rest contact and microtune my bow to perfection...but that is all in my garage - when I'm stalking an animal nothing will beat this whisker biscuit for speed of loading and being able to twist and turn my bow upsidedown or whatever while maneuvering...on top of it, my accuracy is pin-point still.
Slow motion cameras have also opened my eyes to what is really going on when you release an arrow out of 300fps bow...things are bending, shifting, torguing, you name it...no rest truly keeps that arrow a perfect dart the whole cycle anyway.

All rests will work just fine - confidence should be a major factor for everyone - and mine is sky high with the whisker biscuit.
I hope everyone has a successfull/safe 2012!
