UPDATED 8/17/16:
My name is Jim and on the forum also go by UH, Umpqua but I don't go by uuhhhhhhhh or "hey you". I'm 52 years old. I'm trained as a mechanical engineer (Oregon Tech). I worked the first couple decades for my family's business which is a leading manufacturer of high performance electronic components (resistors). My work included a stint in the Netherlands doing a plant start up, product development, automation, hiring, team development, landscaping, putting hay in the barn, scrubbing floors, whatever needed done. In 1999, I lost both of my parents in an auto accident.
In 2003, I left the family business too be the teaching pastor at a "Bible Fellowship" (no denominational affiliation). A few years later, my ex filed a divorce, so I became a full time dad in order to make the most of my time with my six kids (five sons and a daughter). I've been remarried since 2010 to Christy who is truly my best friend. She is trained as an interior designer. We have a grandson (4 years old) and granddaughter (2 years old) and another granddaughter on the way!
Christy and I are currently preparing our home/ranch to go on the market (a huge job). I kept the place after the divorce so the kids had a familiar place. After many years of looking, we now own a property nearby on the North Umpqua river and look forward to "new beginnings" and making our own place together. It has an older home that is in need of a TOTAL renovation (our next big project). That house will eventually become a vacation rental and a place for our friends to come visit. Our project after that is to build our own home on the adjacent lot. The North Umpqua has a run of winter steelhead (January-March), spring Chinook salmon (May-June) and summer steelhead (June-October).
I grew up in So Cal in a family who loved the outdoors. On our small "farm" I spent many days with a pellet gun in one hand, a fishing rod in the other and my German Shorthair at my side as we did our best to keep the numbers of crows, ground squirrels, pigeons, catfish and bluegills under control. We relocated to Oregon after I graduated from high school. Shortly after relocating I got very interested in big game hunting and also in drawing quality tags throughout the west. My original interest was sheep but that expanded to other species soon after. We have since have drawn six sheep tags (three for me, one for my wife, and two for my sons) I've also drawn three Shiras moose tags, a mountain goat tag and numerous deer, elk and antelope tags. I have a Grand Slam plus an additional Rocky and Stone (Fannin).
This is me with my most recent big game animal, a 430 pound Oregon black bear from 2015.
Here's my wife Christy with her 2012 Oregon ram.
My other outdoor passion is trolling herring for fall chinook fishing on the Oregon coast.
I been through some very difficult times, which God uses to make us more like his Son (Romans 8:28-30). Overall, I've been blessed beyond what anyone deserves.
