What is the worst they could do to you for it? Im trying to remember where you are in Idaho. It would be awesome if some forum members could come to your court date to support you!

Looking over the rules it just looks like the trappers are getting the benefit of them only being able to be killed when they have their winter coats and they aren't listed as predators? They are heck on the bird, fawn and rabbit population. We're covered up in them and if you've never watched them out trying to find something to eat, yotes really have nothing on them stealthy jokers.

Been having a pretty good year, filled my cow elk tag on August 16th in 081 depredation hunt of NV. Turns out, lots of folks didn't fill so that makes me happy I was able to close the deal. Guy I worked with never saw any and he had been killing cows there for years.

Then I helped a girl with her muzzleloader bull tag in 061,071. Wasn't able to kill anything, but I was able to get her 6 shots at 3 different bulls. She is having a rough year so she didn't but in the necessary time to get her muzzy absolutely accurate. I tried, but with the loads and bullets she was using, the thing was very inconsistent. We had a 360ish bull come in to my cow calling after chasing after a different bull. Didn't even know it was there until he whistled a mear 35 yards from me. He even walked directly at me to within 28 yards. Amazing. Unfortunately, I had left the hunter to go push the trees I thought the other bull went into. From her location, all she could see was rack and sun. Completely blinded, it definitely killed me when she never shot as he ran off. I even stopped him again, but he was 100 from me and she couldn't see him.

Next was to help my buddy's wife with the rifle tag in the same unit. After seeing 75 head 2 weeks before, we went back to the same area and didn't see but one lone bull that was sprinting down the hill at dawn. I couldn't even see his rack in detail. So much pressure all the elk were treeing up before sun up.

And finally, just this past Friday, I helped my neighbor's dad kill his cow in 073 unit. Stalked in from 1 3/4 mile to within 50 yards and he killed at 80 yards with a 25-06. Dropped her in her tracks. Took us from shot to done processing 1 hour 23 minutes. I was happy with that. Sucked I had to walk back the 1 3/4 to the side by side, but cool she died not to far off the road.

Hope everybody else is having a good year. I'm happy being 2-4 this year, will see if I get any other requests for help. If not, no worries, my GWP is itching to chase those pesky chuckars up and down NE NV.

Ivorytip, if you have not already, you should talk to an atty. familiar with the law and that particular court. Some judges would not look favorably on an innocent plea, when in fact you did violate the letter of the law, and say so when addressing the court. I get your innocent idea, as you had zero intent to violate the law. A literal thinking hard judge may very well say ignorance is no excuse and drop the gavel. In some cases a no contest plea can be better received. Hopefully you know who the judge would be, they all have their personalities and tendencies. In many areas there are State Bar associations you can call for a free 30 minute or so free consultation.

I hope a judge is able to see your pure heart. Just an all around bad situation. Wishing you the best possible outcome.

With your clean record, Simply say what you've typed here and dress professionally. You'll be fine. Probably only a minimal fine.
Good luck and report back to us.

ok guys, im in a little bit of legal trouble and am sickened to death! I shot a bobcat during archery season, and was tickled to death by it, was proud of it! took pics, sent pics, told everyone I knew. well..... turns out bobcats cant be hunted until December, no tag needed, just cant shoot them until December. I did not know this, I should have known this being how ive lived my entire life in the outdoors hunting and fishing. everyone I shared my good fortune with was happy and stoked for me, and they too were all life long avid hunters that didn't know there was a season for them. I go out of my way to abide by the laws laid out for the hunting world. always have! never would I have deliberately do something like that knowing better. but at the same time, I should have know, im not making any excuses, I should have known. when people come hunt elk I expect them to know all the laws and regs around hunting elk. in my ignorance I failed to follow that rule of advice. I take full blame for my wrong doing. when the fish cops showed up I was floored! now I feel like a criminal when I didn't realize I had done anything wrong. have to stand before the judge in two weeks and have know idea what to expect, im a little scared, and feel so stupid and foolish!!

last night while driving out of hills with a buddy and our sons fish and game has a check point set up just off the mountain. the cop was a guy ive chatted with off and on over the last several years, real nice guy. he pulled me away from the truck and told me he processed the paper work for this mess im dealing with and that he tried calling me but I must've been in the mountains. he said the officer that filed the report recommended to the judge that I get the minimum fine being how I was up front and honest about everything and have never had a problem before. he said not to worry about not being able to take my boy out hunting next year, that it should work out. he isn't the judge but I cant tell you how big of a load that took off my chest hearing him say that. was able to breath a bit deeper than before.

Trying to help my boss's daughter get a deer. Seems like most of what I know about hunting doesnt apply here and everything I have watched these deer do all summer changed with rifle season opening. Every time I get a plan someone shoots and spooks the deer or some other deer blow through the middle of it. Got her a shot at 1 buck but good old buck fever got the best of her I think. We will try again tomorrow!!!!

1887 Winchester!!!! Its still in Nebraska but will be here soon. I think its going to be a pretty honest old gun!
The 1887 Winny is a lever action shotgun that is very desirable. I shot one in 12 ga for a couple of years in cowboy action competition. They are really fun to shoot with black powder. Have fun with it. You will probably have to reload if you are going to shoot smokless in it as it is pretty hard to find light 10ga loads for it , also check the chamber length, it probably is shorter than the contemporary 10 gauges.

I plan to load some BP loads for it! I dont expect I will shoot it alot but I do want to shoot it! The guy I bought it from said his father bought it in the early 50's and they have never shot it that he remembers. I cant wait to get it!!!
